By Mike Fried,

Shopping for a princess cut engagement ring. Approx budget 5-7K. Solitaire setting. H, VS2 preferred. 1.2 ct approx. thanks!

What do you charge for your help?

Hi again,

I have a couple of princess cuts I’d like you to check out:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.10-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-209322?a_aid=dmnd1357

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.10-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-230748?a_aid=dmnd1357

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.20-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-238771?a_aid=dmnd1357

On the last one, the price is $6150, it was reduced from $6300 and I’m not sure why. The 1.1 cts are significantly cheaper than the 1.2s above. They seem to be very similar diamonds, just a little smaller. Or am I missing something? Is there a big diff between 1.1 and 1.2? thanks alot…

Firstly, we explain how we operate here: https://www.diamonds.pro/truth-about/diamonds-pro/

I agree with you that the 1.10cts are far better bang for your buck (you are paying a lot more, for a slight size gain), but I’d go with this one:

The other one you selected was cut a little deeply. It was still within an ok range, but it would make the diamond look smaller.

Let me know how it looks when it arrives.

Thanks. How about this one? 1.18 cts. I don’t mind paying a little more for a little bigger.

That one looks great as well.

I ordered the 1.1. Spoke w a girl from JA yesterday. She said that within each color there are 3 diff grades of color. Is this true? I’ve never seen it indicated on any stone, just G, H, I, etc. I ordered H, so I’m assuming it will be clear to the eye.

Well there are weak color grades and strong ones. No lab is 100% GIA is the most consistent with the slightest variations, so I wouldn’t really worry about what she is saying.

Let me know how it looks when it arrives.

Looks great. I took it to a gemologist and he valued it 700 bucks more than I paid. Quick question- I bought just the loose diamond. I have picked out a setting I like on JAs website. Should I send it back to them and have them set it or just order the setting from ja and have it done locally?

Send it back to them. Makes more sense. Please let me know how the finished product turns out.

Turned out great. looks bigger than 1.1 ct. and shines bright. she loves it, thx for help.

Thanks for writing and letting us know. I’m delighted that you were pleased with our help. We wish you and your partner a life of happiness and fulfillment.
