Q&A: Help Finding a Pair of Diamond Earrings For a White Gold Martini Setting With a $4.5k-$5k Total Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi, I’m looking for two round .7-.73 ct G-H SI1 excellent cut, no flour diamonds. I’ve been looking on James Allen mainly, and cant tell what is eye-clean or not. Do you have any coupons or diamond recomendations for James Allen? I’ve been trying to use HCA scores to pick a brighter diamond but would like any suggestions you may have! I’m looking to create stud earrings, since I didn’t like nay of the preset pairs I saw.

HCA is a good tool, but I don’t recommend focusing on it completely:
https://www.diamonds.pro/education/holloway-cut-adviser/.

Are the earrings going to be in white gold?

Also, can you give me your ballpark figure of what you’re looking to spend?

Yes, I’m going to do white gold 18k martini setting. I’m looking to spend around 4.5-5k but can go up to 6k if it’s necessary in order to get the specs I’m looking for. I want these to be my forever earrings, so I’d like to get ones that are as bright and possible and also eye-clean. I was looking at the true hearts diamonds on James Allen but wasn’t sure if these are that much better than what the ideal scopes for one of the “ideal cuts” will be.

Thanks for your help!

……

Just wanted to follow up and see if you had a chance to review my reply to the questions you sent. Please let me know if there is any other info I should provide. I’m getting an error when I try to reply from my AOL email so I’ve switched to this instead.

Thanks 🙂

Thanks, these look good. Do you know of any coupons that will apply to this purchase and also should I request ideal scopes from James Allen for these? My only pause was that the HCA rated 2427722 as “4.0 – Good – Only if price is your main criterion.” Do you think it’s likely to make a difference at all visually compared to lower rated stones or is that something you can only tell by looking at the ideal scopes?

Also I was wondering what you think about H vs G for color? Is it even a noticeable difference for the white gold setting? Can’t thank you enough for your help!

As we describe in the article I sent you about HCA, it’s not that important. HCA is based on rating the best cuts so even 4 is good.

You can ask for the Idea Scopes, but we don’t really care about them. As long as the diamond is properly cut (and the two I sent you are), there isn’t a reason to see those pics.

As for the difference between a G and H, it’s nominal. Check out the video in our color article: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any coupons for JA.

Thanks Annie, I really appreciate the advice! Are there any other pairs you could recommend? I think 2427722 might be slightly more yellow and considering the high HCA level and no ideal scope is available for that from James Allen I’m not comfortable picking that one. I thought it was usually recommended to look at the ideal scopes when buying online, but whatever you think is best 🙂

I was reading a few of your articles and in one you mention looking at Brian Gavin’s Signature and Black selections to get the best bang for your buck. Are there any diamonds James Allen and perhaps also on Brian’s site you would recommend?

Thanks much!

If you focus on the brilliance the most, then Brian Gavin is the best bet. They are a bit pricier, but it’s worth it for those people. Here is a pair from them:

Both of these have excellent proportions and a lot of fire and brilliance. With their perfectly cut diamonds, you don’t have to be as strict on color. Especially not for earrings.

Here is another matching diamond for the 2494324:

Even though the HCA is a good tool, we don’t recommend focusing on it entirely: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/holloway-cut-adviser/.

Thanks!

My pleasure. Let me know how it goes.

Can I get you opinion on this diamond? Do you think it is eye clean? They had an idealscope (attached). Does this seem like a good choice and if so are there any you would recommend for a matching pair? Thanks so much!
