Q&A: Strong Fluorescence On an E Color: Not A Good Choice

By Mike Fried,

Hi,

I’ve bought a ring that isn’t here yet, but would like to know if I made a mistake. Blue Nile LD12644263

It exhibits strong fluorescence which worries me a lot now! I thought I was being clever by diving deep into the table % and depth % but it sounds like that was the wrong thing to look at.

Would this diamond be a much better option? If only a slight difference then I won’t make a change, but if it’s a large difference I’ve still got time to call and change it.

If there’s still time to cancel the order, do it. E-color diamond with strong fluorescence is a terrible option, it is practically guaranteed to have a hazy/dead look in most lighting.

This one isn’t good either, it has a small culet. The culet should always be none.

Here’s what I’d recommend. It’s a beautiful option with a fantastic cut, it’ll be very bright and brilliant in any setting you choose.

What do you think?

You guys are absolutely incredible, thank you! Luckily I went with none of the options I sent you previously. Instead, I chose this one:
Blue Nile LD06197135

Round, Ideal cut, G, VVS1, no fluorescence, and no culet. Did I do alright? I’m heavily constrained by the ship date.

Thank you for the nice words.

The diamond you ended up with was an excellent choice. Great find!

Phew, thanks for the reassurance!

Happy to help!
