I plan on proposing soon and was wondering what you thought of this diamond?
I’m looking in the $4,000 – $4,500 range for a round diamond to go in a 14k white gold setting.
I think you got too caught up in the ‘weight’ of the diamond. The one you selected is very poorly cut. Not only will it be far less brilliant, but its cut so deeply it will look smaller than a 1ct should.

Check this diamond out.
This diamond will be far more brilliant. But the kicker is that you aren’t actually sacrificing any size. They both have 6.30mm diameters.
Ok, thanks. A couple more questions if you don’t mind:
1) Any idea why the GIA certificate on the one you suggest(1169262251) doesn’t have the Reference Diagrams like the other one has(2151587216) where you can see the feathers, crystals, needles, etc?
2) The one you suggested does seem shinier/less cloudy but has more marks on it like the big mark on the left side (as you can see in the photo). Will that be visible to the naked eye or is it eye-clean and no big deal?
3) Or is that the tradeoff for the SI1 vs VS2 ratings and Excellent vs Very Good cut?
Thanks again for all of your help!
1) All diamonds above 1ct get a full GIA certificate with the inclusion plot. Under 1ct most do not. Its an added expense that isn’t worth it for smaller diamonds. As they get closer to 1ct some manufacturers decide to get it.
2) It is eye-clean. Especially with the inclusion being on the edge, you can cover it with a prong.
3) Excellent is far more important than VS2. Once a diamond is eye-clean, it’s eye-clean.
Ok, thanks again. I plan on purchasing it today. . .
Sounds good. Let me know what you decide to do in the end.
