I’d like to start by saying a massive THANK YOU for your amazing website. It really is the definitive reference tool on the net.
Could you please assist me with my diamond search? I’m after an emerald cut, about 1.50 carat for around $10,000 (or less!).
Can you give me your thoughts on this diamond from James Allen? I love its ratio (looking for around 1.45 or greater). But:
https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS1-Very-Good-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1503506.asp
– Its depth is 72.8% (greater than your recommended 60-68%)
– Its cut is only rated Good,
– I want to set it on a platinum pave diamond ring which will probably have H color diamonds – so will the F color not look nice with a band of H diamonds?
Or are there others at James Allen or elsewhere online that are better options? Really appreciate your assistance!
That is an absolutely beautiful diamond. Don’t focus on the depth so much. The depth % is calculated by dividing the depth by the width. When you have a longer diamond (which a 1.54 L:W ratio is fantastic), the depth% will skew higher.
Thank you so much for your reply.
Do you think the cut of this diamond is ok? Although I know that an emerald cut won’t sparkle as much as a cut with many facets, I still want it to sparkle, if you know what I mean.
Also, will this color stone look ok in a platinum setting of small H color diamonds? On your website you mention of the importance for a centre diamond to be similar color to those in a pave setting.
Thanks so much for your assistance!
The color will look great. And, as I was trying to explain, the cut is fine on the diamond. The actual % doesn’t matter as much as the overall depth in relation to the L:W ratio; that diamond has great proportions.
I’m so glad Mike because I went ahead and bought it! Very excited.
I wouldn’t have bought from James Allen if I hadn’t happened upon your website. They should know this fact so you can get some kind of ‘reward’ or ‘finders fee’. Please let me know if you would like me to write to them.
Thank you once again
Thanks for your concern, but I think it already tracked.
Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
