I am looking to buy an engagement ring and stumbled across your website. I figured it couldn’t hurt to email you!
Here are my criteria that I have come up with so far. Basically, my philosophy has been, a really excellent small diamond is better than a subpar big diamond. I will be complementing the main stones with smaller ones off to either side.
Here goes:
Shape: Round
Carat: .90 +. I realize there isn’t that noticiable a difference between .90 and 1.00, and anything above is out of my price range (max around $7500, though I am targeting $5000).
Color: G. (Difference between G and H is not discernible to the untrained eye.)
Cut: ideal (maybe?) I got the impression that cut is extremely important to the way the light bounces off the diamond. Since the diamond will be mounted so the bottom is visible as well, I want it to refract light very well.
Clarity: SI1 and up. Again, from research, it seems the difference between SI1 and better is not visible to the untrained eye.
Fluorescence: None? I want it to contribute to the overall beauty of the diamond, which again, will be extremely visible and mounted in 18k gold. I am completely open to suggestions.
Symmetry / Polish: Excellent / ideal? From research, I get the impression that these contribute to the overall blind factor substantially. Again, I am completely open to suggestions.
ANY help you can offer is MUCH appreciated!!
I would go with this diamond:

It’s bright, eye-clean and a great value. The only H I found that I liked wasn’t any cheaper.
Thanks so much for your prompt reply! Free advice – what’s not to like? Anyway, thanks so much for your help. Have a great weekend!
