Q&A: Picking a 1 Ct. Emerald Cut Diamond for a Platinum Band with Around $4k Budget

By Mike Fried,

I am looking for about a 1 carat engagement ring with a mostly plain platinum band (I like the 1212P and 11104P) (and one which is “skinny”, as in not very thick). Ideally, I would like to come in under $5000 – closer to $4000, the better. I’ve tried to look at JA diamonds, but the very minor changes between the C’s can make a pricey difference and I am not sure which one should hav precedence over the other and I’m not sure how the emerald cut will look on those settings.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What do you think of this one?

This would go great in a solitaire setting. Its eye-clean and well cut. What do you think?

Will the slight fluorescence hurt this stone? Also, I’ve read on other sites that a very thick girdle may not reflect/refract the light in the most appropriate way, is there any truth to this or should I not be concerned with the girdle thickness? Thanks!

Neither of those are issues. Very thick will not affect light return on an emerald cut.
