Q&A: Need Help Finding ~2Ct. Radiant Cut for Halo Pave Setting

By Mike Fried,

Was recommended to your site from a friend whom you helped purchase a diamond. I was hoping you could lend some advice on a particular diamond on James Allen, and perhaps your overall insight. I am looking to buy a radiant cut (what the GF wants) in a halo setting with pauve diamonds on the side. I went to see a friend in the wholesale business, but he only had G color radiants in the VVS2, VS1, and VS2 range – so I am still a little uncertain as to how low I can go in clarity and color and still get a great looking diamond. I found this one on James Allen which turns out to be around $2k-$3k cheaper than what I was seeing in person in the G VS1/VS2 range. It seems like a good deal, but was hoping to get your opinion.

Also – I have a picture of a setting I am imagining, but can not attach it in here. Hopefully I can send to your email when I receive a response.

Thanks so much! I am really looking forward to your response!

Please send me the photo.

Thanks so much for your response Mike – I really appreciate it. Attached is the picture of the setting that I have settled on (and have been told I can get it for $3k). I think now it’s just a matter of making sure I am comfortable with the deal I am getting. Being such a huge purchase, I need to feel that I am getting a good value before pulling the trigger.

Thanks again for taking the time to help.

I actually like the cut on this diamond a lot more:

It will be far prettier than the G you selected. Also, because of the depth, it will look much larger.

Thanks again for the below response. I have been doing a lot of research recently, and with your help on the below stone I feel more comfortable and a lot closer to purchasing. I have been monitoring James Allen for the past month plus, and have put together the below list of diamonds based off the one you sent below (which subsequently is unavailable now). I was trying to get close to the specs of the stone you provided (depth, table, ratio, cut, etc etc) I was wondering if you could take a look, and let me know which stone you liked better – or if there were any others out there that might be a bit better. I think I can get away with a size closer to 1.7 since the setting that my girlfriend wants is a halo setting with pauve diamonds on the side – potentially making the stone look a little bit larger.

Any help at all is again greatly appreciated.

I would not get the E VS1. Never buy a colorless diamond with fluorescence. I really like the H VVS. The 1.86 is nice as well, but I like the cut on the H VVS better.
