Curious what you think of this ring:

At $13,850 – ripoff or no? Anything to be wary of?
Thanks.
Thanks for the link.
The ring has a unique design. Since the center stone is an old European cut, we can’t really comment on it. We found them to be not well cut and way too pricey. However, they are often used for vintage rings.
Another thing is the EGL cert. It’s one of the worst labs out there. I would never recommend anyone purchasing a diamond with that certificate under any circumstances.

Thanks for this – very helpful! Here’s another situation I was looking at: $16800 = total cost the jeweler gave me. Broken down he said these were the costs:
$120 is the cost of shipping and insurance
$2850 for an antique platinum setting
$13830 for diamond which is 2.19cts VVS Quality with Excellent cut and no fluorescence
However, the color is a U, which theoretically should be fairly inexpensive right? The jeweler is telling me that because it’s so yellow there are less of them. The stone does have a GIA cert. I’ve attached some pictures for reference. Keep in mind the antique setting prongs have obviously not been trimmed down for this new diamond. For what it’s worth we looked at less yellow diamonds and my girlfriend seemed to prefer the more yellow colors.
Thanks.
The diamond is overpriced. For a similar price, you can find yellow diamonds with the actual fancy color grades.
