Q&A: Looking for Round Cut for Tiffany-Style Setting

Firstly, thank you so much for your insight and reviews – I have to agree with others that this site has been by far the most useful out there! I am looking for an engagement ring and know that my fiancee loves the Tiffany Setting – 6 prong, round-cut style solitaire rings, however I simply cannot afford the £10k + (we are based in London), and from your review it just doesn’t seem like the best value at all (although it would be nice!).

I was pointed in the direction of B.Nile by a colleague, but after reading your reviews along with others I have decided that J.A or B.G seem to be much better value and fit my requirements perfectly, so due to your clearly valuable knowledge of the industry I hope that you may be able to help me just as you have done for so many others! B.G have the ‘Classic Tiffany Style Half Round Platinum’ ring and J.A do their spin on the style with the ‘Platinum Six Prong Knife Edged Solitaire Engagement Ring (Handmade) – both from what I can see will make my fiancee a very happy woman! Would you recomment either over the other in terms of one being better for this style of ring, and do you think that there would be any problems with me ordering from the UK??

Ideally my budget would be no more than £4,000 (approx $6,400 including Duties) and I am looking for an Excellent/Ideal Cut, Colour F, Minimum 0.7 carat, and I am undecided on Clarity after reading your reviews – my gut says go for VS2 and above to ensure that it is definitely eye-clean but I know that you have said that SL1 is better value!

I am not sure whether it would be very beneficial to go with a B.G Select diamond over an ‘everything Else’?

And would 0.7 carat be large enough to stand out in your opinion?

Thanks Mike, that is why I am 90% sure that I will go with them – makes a huge difference being able to see the diamond yourself before buying it too. I spoke to a lady called Anna at JA and she was really helpful and told me how the handmade 6 prong ring will fit the diamond better because of the way it is tightened, would you agree with this? There is a large difference in price between the handmade and non-handmade so just trying to figure out what is best to go for?

Final thing is what you would advise on between a 0.7carat VS2 like the one i sent you and you liked, or moving down to SL1 to try to afford a 0.8carat? Would you be able to help me find something closer to 0.8carat, colour F, excellent/ideal cut, SL1 or VS2 that is completely eye-clean?
