Hi, you guys helped me pick out my engagement stone a couple years ago. Unfortunately my wife lost her ring so we are now going through an insurance claim to replace it.
The previous stone was GIA certified 1.59c J SI2 Excellent cut polish and symmetry.
See following link https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.59-carat-j-color-si2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-153818?a_aid=dmnd1357
Unfortunately the picture is gone, but the stone was eye clean.
Can you recommend a replacement stone.
I’d be happy to help. Sorry to hear about the misfortune. Can you give me a budget for the diamond?
It’s a little difficult to say as the insurance company will pay for “like and kind” ie the same as previous.
I searched James Allen https://www.jamesallen.com//loose-diamonds/round-cut/?CaratFrom=1.59&CaratTo=1.65&Color=J,I&Clarity=SI2,SI1,VS2,VS1,VVS2,VVS1,IF&Cut=Ideal,Excellent&PriceFrom=200&PriceTo=11000&Sort=Price%20asc%20,DefaultOrder&advancedParameter=Color&showAdvanced=show&ps=15&Polish=EX,ID&Symmetry=EX,ID&Lab=GIA&Flour=&DepthFrom=45.0&DepthTo=80.0&TableFrom=50.0&TableTo=83.0?a_aid=dmnd1357
And only got 14 stones. When sorted by price the first 5 didn’t look very good to my untrained eye, but thus one did 353460. The only problem is it is a VS2 and I’m not sure if the insurance company will go up 2 grades on clarity. (although I think our previous stone was much much cleaner (I think) than any of the SI1’s or SI2’s I could find here)
I’m going to touch base with James Allen today an see if they can give me more guidance on how much latitude I have as they should be receiving the paperwork from the insurance company and I’m sure it will have some guidance on what they will pay.
…
Here are a another stone I found. What do you think of it.
That diamond is ok, but I don’t love the inclusions. See if you can get them to splurge on this one:
What do you think?
I like it. Can we see if they will approve it?
…
Hi again, the insurance company is going to have the James Allan Gemologist review both stones. If the First is not eye clean they will pay for the VS2.
When you said you didn’t love the inclusions what did you mean? Is it a question of clarity/visibility or something else?
The clarity is a concern, but JA’s gemologist will steer you in the right direction. They don’t have an incentive to give you the worse diamond, the insurance company does. Let me know what they say.
