Q&A: Looking for Replacement Diamond for $3500 Budget

I am looking to replace about a 33 point diamond in my wife’s ring with something bigger. It’s a solitaire gold setting so from what I read here K color should be adequate? I don’t want to spend more than 3500 but less would make it easier to get something additional. What do you think of these two?

Thanks so much. We ordered the second diamond. It came in today. My wife is very happy with it. We’ll get it set next week. We went recently to a local jewelry store that was advertising a going out of business sale. The sale price of a .92 diamond was $5300. It was heavily included and just looked dirty throughout. I have no idea of the cut, because one look and we were gone.

As I looked over some offerings from discount chains like Sams I noticed that they usually would give carat weight, color, and clarity but replaced cut grade with shape. A little bit sneaky.

Thanks for educating me on the importance of cut and not spending money on things that won’t matter like color grade or excessive clarity. I asked my wife when the diamond came in, if it looked yellow to her. “No, it’s beautiful.”
