Q&A: Looking for a Pair of Round Diamond Studs Around 1.5 Ct. Total Weight with Around $4k-$5k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi. I am planning on buying a pair of diamond stud earrings for my wife, ~1.5 total carat weight in the quality range in the diamond stud article (h-J, si, etc).

I had thought / remembered or hoped I could do this in the mid $4,000 range but it appears that this will likely be at least $5,000 after some investigation.

The article / website mentioned you do help customers with diamond acquisitions. This is a large purchase for me and an important birthday for my wife so I would I would love to make sure to get the best quality diamonds I can.

If you would be able help with diamond wave, James Allen or blue Nike I would appreciate it. Obviously if there isn’t much to be done at this level I will likely reach out to diamond wave or James Allen.

Thank you for the website and article. I found it useful, interesting and informative.

They look great. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

Upon watching them whirl around a bit I had a couple of questions.

The first diamond (sku 288277) has what looks like a small smear or scratch or streak of crystals near the middle of the face / table. Presumably this is a small inclusion, normal and to be expected for si2 clarity. I also understand these images magnified. I just wondered about the centeredness of the inclusion and wanted your opinion of whether this would be visible to the naked eye, otherwise noticeable or would detract visually from the diamond?

The second diamond (sku 280551) doesn’t list cut quality on the web description but it is listed on the GIA report so presumably an oversight. I noticed there was an occlusion near one of the points of the table. Is that the sort of thing that would be covered by a prong and would the jeweler take care to do that do you think? Or would this inclusion not be visible to the naked eye?

This brings me to my last question. presumably I would just ask James Allen to set the diamonds? I was thinking about the 18K WG 3 prong martini setting. Is there any reason not to use this setting?

Thank you again for your help and responsiveness. I look forward to your insight and advice.

Well it’s a moot point. The first one is no longer available.

This would be a good alternative. This would match the second choice as well. And yes, its eye-clean.

Ok. Thank you. I’ve just placed the order.

Thank you again for your help.

 Sounds good. Keep me posted.

I got the diamond earrings and they look great. An enormous hit with my wife. Thank you again for your help.
