Q&A: Looking for an Oval-Shaped Diamond for a White Gold Halo Within an $8k-$10k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi, I previously contacted you about purchasing a diamond but held off due to some unforeseen circumstances. I’m again looking to purchase a diamond a have been looking at an oval diamond. My budget is between 8 and 10 thousand and would like to get at least a 1.2 carat stone. I was going back and forth between an oval and round diamond but prefer the oval. Do you have advice purchasing an oval? I would like a diamond that sparkles and am worried about the bow tie. Do you think I should avoid ovals and purchase a round?

Welcome back.

I’d be happy to help you with the search. What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones, halo) and metal (yellow gold, white gold, platinum) are you planning to use?

I was looking at a halo white gold setting.

Thanks for the links. They all look beautiful, why do they differ so much in price? Is it only the diamond size or is the quality of each different?

Mostly because of the size. The second one is no longer available and I don’t remember the price.

I decided to go with the second diamond it was listed at 8400 only a thousand less than the 1.5 carat diamond but the girl on the phone said it had the best proportions of the three. Does that sound correct?

I also appreciate the help. Do I need to do anything when purchasing so that you guys get commission?

……

Even though I’ve purchased the second diamond I’m going back and forth between it and the 1.5 carat diamond. Someone from customer support told me due to the better grading of the 1.3 carat diamond they will look almost the same size. Do you think that is true?

Does the 1.3 carat diamond actually have a better grading? Will this effect it’s sparkle?

Why is it so close in price to the larger diamond while the first diamond is much cheaper and almost the same size (1.26 carats)?

Thanks for the help.

I think that the 1.50ct is a better choice. When you look at the measurements, it’s slightly longer and much wider (i.e. it will look bigger).

If I was about to choose between the two smaller ones, I’d go with the cheaper option. In my opinion, the one you purchased was priced a bit higher than I would like.

Anyways, you still have time to change the order and I would definitely go with one of the other two.

Thanks I went with the 1.5 carat diamond. Thanks for the help!

Great! That diamond is a much better choice.

Let me know how it looks when you receive it.
