Hi, I was so glad I read your article prior to making my purchase. I was one that was looking in the VVS range afraid of eye-visible inclusions. What worries me now (possibly unnecessarily) is the difference in color.
I’ve been looking on James Allen for a few weeks now sifting through many of the diamonds, and I have noticed that color changes price drastically. I was hoping you could provide some guidance. I am looking for an oval shaped diamond that is eye clean with color that would not be much of concern.
Thanks again for any advice.
You can go with an H color oval stone. It’s going to look colorless: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/
If you also tell me what your approximate budget is, then I’ll be happy to help you with the search.
My budget is approx 3-4K. My girlfriend is pretty petite in stature so anything over a carat may seem big (from what I understand). I am also concerned with getting something too small. On James Allen the photos are excellent but I struggle to truly understand the size differences. Thanks for your help.
I suggest going to one of your local shops to see the actual size of a 0.75 or 1.00 carat stone. According to what you’re saying, I think that a 0.75 carat stone might be just right. But I think it would be a good idea to go and see it in person.
Here’s a 0.75 with great overall specifications:

Let me know what you think.
That one is really nice. I really like this one. I will definitely be going to see the difference between .75 and 1 carat as there is a major saving in the size difference. Do you think it’s worth it to spend a bit more for an ideal cut or do you think a very good cut will sparkle just as good?
GIA report grades cut only of round shape stones. This grade of oval shape is given by JA company and we don’t really pay attention to it. We have our own rules for searching for other shape stones. This diamond is beautiful and there’s no need to worry about its cut.
Keep me posted.
Ok great! I’m pretty much settled on this stone. She really likes rose gold so my last decision is on the setting. She mentioned that she likes the simplicity of a solitaire setting.
How do I ensure that you will receive credit for assisting me?
……
I was able to see the .75 vs the 1 carat in store and I’m really torn between the sizes. I really like everything about the .75 but I’m curious as to if a .9ish would settle my mind. Is it possible for you to show me a slightly bigger stone with similar qualities to the .75 you sent?
Sorry for so many requests. Thanks.
Here’s a 0.90 carat stone:

It’s also very well cut and perfect for any style of settings.
If you like this size more, go for it.
