I’m looking for a quality budget diamond to buy loose for an engagement ring. I was looking on Blue Nile but I didn’t like taking a chance on a diamond there. James Allen is awesome but I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking at half the time.
I would like a radiant cut diamond in the carat range of .7 – .85. My budget is under $2000 But the cheaper the better. (I was looking and saw some well under the 2,000 mark). I would love for it to have a 1.1-1.2 ratio for length and width. If it’s under 1.1 that’s fine but nothing over 1.2. And I would like the color G or higher.
Thanks in advance for your help!!
Have a look at this diamond:
It’s very well cut, eye-clean and it matches what you’re looking for. An H color diamond is going to look colorless in any style of settings. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/

Looks good! I’m going to raise my diamond price to $2500 though. Going to look for a little bigger of a size. I’m aiming for a more shallow diamond so it’s sets lower since my girlfriend is a nurse and this will help her if she wants to wear it at work. Still want to be under a carat. Just a bigger face and less depth on the ratio of the diamond.
Thanks!
This diamond seems to be the best eye-clean option to go with:
Cut is very important as it highly influences the light return. Looking for shallow stones reduces brilliance. That’s why I recommend not going too low.

That is a beautiful diamond. Ok, I’m looking to buy next week. I picked out the band but it only takes round (out of the diamonds I like anyways). Talked to the lady kind of lightly about diamond shapes and she talked about how she loved round.
The setting I found on James Allen is perfect and it’s cheap enough for me to raise my diamond price to $3,000 or less now! I was looking in the .9 carat range. I found one I really like and I would love for your opinion. Also if you see any diamonds similar from .80 – 1 Ct. In that price range. If the diamond I found is something you think is good I will still do whatever it takes so you get the commission of course. Thanks for you’re help. Promise I’ve fully narrowed it down to round for the setting.
Here’s the diamond:
Really any diamond from .75-.9 with that you think will look stunning! Around $3200 max for the diamond is perfect. Just want it to look great since she wants a solitaire band so all eyes are on the diamond. Obviously the bigger the better but I want it to be a quality diamond!
Also have a question. When it give the width of the round diamond in mm, is that really how wide the diamond is? I’m seeing around 6 mm for some of the diamonds and I’m eyeing it up with a ruler and it seems pretty big. Just making sure I’m doing the measurements right on my side.
Thanks for your help!
The diamond you sent has Very Good cut, which is an issue. Cut highly influences the way a diamond returns light (brilliance). That’s why we recommend searching for excellent/ideal cuts only. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/cuts/
Here’s a beautiful diamond I found for you:
It’s very well cut, colorless and eye-clean.

Looks great! Found a .8 that’s just slightly smaller that looks amazing to my eyes. And it’s over $500 cheaper. To your eyes will it look as good? Just trying to find the best value! Thanks

The diamond you found is cut slightly too deeply. As I mentioned previously cut highly influences brilliance.
That’s why I’d rather stick with the stone I selected. Let me know what you decide.
I ordered the .84 ct diamond! And thanks for putting up with all my questions and thoughts!
That’s a fantastic news. It was my pleasure helping you.
