Q&A: Looking for a Loose Princess Cut Diamond at Different Online Retailers

By Mike Fried,

Buying a solitaire princess 1 ct. diamond ring for my wife as anniversary (20 years).

My budget is $2500-3000. Found one that seem to be good at Blue Nile online diamond store, stock# LDO07971725 Color J, Clarity VS2, Cut Very Good for $2710 plus cca. $300 for 14K White Gold Ring Band.

Discount code would really help.
Thank you

Unfortunately, I couldn’t look up the diamond in their inventory, it looks like it’s not available anymore.

I would not recommend the J color for a princess cut diamond. Princess cut diamonds don’t refract light just as well as round diamonds and thus tend to show their true color more. You should stick with an I+ color.

How about something like this?
Blue Nile LD07799979

It’s well cut and will be very brilliant in any solitaire setting you choose.

What do you think?

Thank you for a quick response and thank you for your advice, I’ll definitely go for it if I buy it from Blue Nile. However, I’m not 100% sure if I want to buy from them. Do you have any other online diamond store recommendation (some friends told me about The Jewelry Exchange)? Or even better since I live in San Diego do have any jewelry store recommendation?

You’re welcome.

Blue Nile is a reputable company and we recommend it to our readers often. Sometimes you can find a great value there (as I found in this particular case). I know that our BN review doesn’t complement the company that much, but we are currently rewriting that article. We have found out a huge improvement in their service lately and their prices have dropped to the point where you can often find a VVS diamond that is a better value than an eye-clean SI elsewhere.

That said, do you still want me to find you some other options for you?

Unfortunately, we haven’t had any experiences with Jewelry Exchange, so I can’t comment on them.

Thanks again, yes, I would like to see more options before I buy.

And thanks, one more time for all suggestions and advise, all these looks really good, at least on specs and they are all GIA certified, so which one you prefer, which one has the nicest package box. Of course, I still need to choose ring band but if I buy online I’ll follow your preference.

Since I didn’t make decision for Christmas time I’ll go and check a few local jewelry stores to compare their diamonds with these and now that I kind of now what am I looking for on the diamonds quality I fill confident to choose right one.

One last question if you willing to share your expertise. Apparently, my budget is not enough for 1ct princess diamond with same specs, so question is – can you tell me what is the price tag on 1ct with those specs and if it’s not too much on time can you show me couple suggestions?

I’m glad you like them.

Regarding the packaging, you’d better ask their custom service, they will tell you more.
