Q&A: Looking for the Largest and Most Brilliant Diamond for a Solitaire Setting for 11k

By Mike Fried,

Hi, I am in the market for the largest and most radiant round diamond I can find for 11k. I would like close to 1.5 ct but think good color and excellent reflection are most important. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I’d be happy to make some recommendations for you but I need a little more info.

What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) do you want to use? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

I am looking for a solitaire in white gold.

Great, thanks for the additional info.

For a simple solitaire setting, J color is what we recommend and it looks fantastic.

Have a look at this diamond:
Blue Nile LD07935606

It is beautifully cut and will be very brilliant. Medium fluorescence will help it look a bit whiter.

What do you think?

That seems very nice but you don’t think J would be noticeable color wise? I admittedly know nothing but was thinking I needed G or H. And is that cut as brilliant as there is? Also any with actual photos? Thank you so much and I hope not to be a pest.

As I said, J color is our usual recommendation for that type of setting. There are no additional diamonds in the band that might make the difference in colors noticeable.

The cut is fantastic, the diamond will have some added brilliance thanks to it.

I’m happy to search for some I or H color diamonds as well, but you’d get the same look for the naked eye with a significant price difference.

Let me know your thoughts.

Then by all means let’s stick with the J and glad I asked you because I would have over paid. Finally would this ring be any less brilliant than say a smaller ring with a sig ideal cut and is there a lot to the crown angle/pavilion angle. I guess I’m looking for the most sparkle and if I have to go smaller I would. This size would be great though.

I’m glad we’re on the same page.

That diamond is fantastically cut and will have a lot of added brilliance. Still, if you want something extraordinary, this diamond is just superb:
