Q&A: Looking for “Sparkly” 2Ct.+ Round Cut for $22K Budget

By Mike Fried,

I would like some suggestions on whats out there Looking for a GIA loose round ideal cut diamond. Budget is $22000 and she wants size most importantly (2+ carat) that looks “sparkly”. For color H-J I guess would be the best as I read this in one of your articles. What clarity should I look for that will look good to the naked eye.

It will be set in a white gold or platinum solitaire.

Any suggestions for best bang for the buck?

I love this diamond for you:

It’s bright, eye-clean and a great value (you are getting a really nice size for your money). What do you think?

Thanks for your recommendation. I like the one that you sent. Most I’ve looked at are J in color-is it worth it to go up to I color grade? Thank you for your help and expertise, my knowledge of what will be eye visible is non-existent as I look at the virtual loupe on James Allen. A couple I’ve had earmarked in addition to the one you sent me are below:
Blue Nile LD02853942

Can’t view them on Blue Nile, but this one jumped out at me on the search. Will the 62% table be a bit too much on this one and effect the cut? With a VVS1 clarity, it should be eye clean correct? Or do they sometimes have problems even in that high of clarity. Some other reason I don’t know about as to why it wouldn’t be a good buy?

https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS2-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1501073.asp I see something at the 1 o’clock position on this one. Will that be eye visible?

https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1524115.asp Inclusion near 11 o clock eye visible on this one?

https://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS2-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1442280.asp eye visible on this one as well?

Thanks!

The BN diamond is a big no-no. It’s eye-clean, but 62 is way too big a table. I don’t like the first JA diamond for that reason as well. The second JA diamond (the J VS1) is gorgeous and a great value. The third one is well cut, but I’m not sure about the inclusion either.

Thanks so much for the help. So I take it that inclusion near the top of the photo on the JA website be not be eye visible? Will the J color be fine for a platinum solitaire setting or should i up it to an I color diamond? If all is good, plan to order that one.

The J will be fine, and it’s completely eye-clean. Keep in mind that the photo is magnified 20X.
