Hello,
I am looking to purchase this diamond from James Allen: www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.76-carat-j-color-si1-clarity-sku-3679735?a_aid=dmnd1357, and I’m using this setting:
14K WHITE GOLD PAVE HALO DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING.
I was wondering if you thought the J color diamond would look slightly yellow in this setting? Also, what is your opinion on the quality of the diamond? I can see the inclusions but they don’t appear as if they would be noticeable to the naked eye.
Thanks.
J would be a bit yellowish, yes. I wouldn’t recommend going below H color a halo setting.
The inclusions on that diamond are fine. Twinning wisps are invisible to the naked eye in 95% of the time. The only concern would be the bow tie that seems to be a bit too strong. But it’s not catastrophic.
I’d go with this one:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.60-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-sku-3649446?a_aid=dmnd1357
It’s a tad smaller, but it will look fantastically white in the setting you chose.
It looks great, are there any slightly larger diamonds that would still look as good and white in the halo setting?
I tried to find the largest diamond possible, but that 0.60ct was the best I could find.
Alright, I don’t think I stated my budget correctly. I’m willing to spend around $2500 total, so my diamond budget is around $1700.
OK, if we go to that price point, then this would be the best bigger option, but I’m not a big fan of the bow tie:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.70-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-sku-3668621?a_aid=dmnd1357
Or maybe this one:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.65-carat-h-color-si2-clarity-sku-3660403?a_aid=dmnd1357
It’s a bit wider than the 0.60ct I sent previously.
I’m new to all of the diamond jargon, what exactly is the bow tie and how does it affect the diamond? I like the look of both diamonds, I just want to make sure I’m getting the best that James Allen has to offer.
The bowtie is the black figure eight running north-south through the center of the diamond. If it’s too noticeable, it will be the only thing you see when you look at the stone in person. I’ve been looking around and was wondering what you think of this diamond from James Allen:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.71-carat-g-color-si2-clarity-sku-3668705?a_aid=dmnd1357
I don’t like the strong fluorescence. It usually causes a hazy appearance on I+ colors. Unfortunately, there is no way to find out for sure unless you see it in person, and that’s why we avoid these stones. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/fluorescence/
Bummer, I thought I’d found the one. Would you be able to provide me with 1-2 more suggestions for diamonds around .7ct? I will be forever thankful!
I wish I could, but I didn’t find any other options than those I already sent you that would be around 1,700 and 0.70ct.
After all my searching, I keep coming back to the first diamond you sent me.

I’m finally convinced it’s the best choice. Thank you for the help!
That’s great. It is a beautiful stone.
I hope you like it even better in person.
