Q&A: Looking for a Round Diamond for a Classic Tiffany Setting Within a $6,500-$7,500 Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi there,

It’s been a while since I reached out I hope you’re still available to assist!

I think I’ve narrowed it down to anything H or above on color, 1.1 carat and above, James Allen, round, clarity SI1 or above, GIA lab. My budget for the diamond and setting is in the $6500-$7500 range but I could go as high as $8000. I was trying to balance diamond and setting.

Six prong solitaire knife edge 18k setting for $1000 is what I am also planning, do you know if this is roughly the same setting as the Tiffany engagement ring? It appeared to be but I was wondering your feedback.

You’re right, this is the type of setting we recommend to readers who are after the classic Tiffany look.

This center stone is going to look beautiful in it:

Thoughts?

Thank you very much. I know the term eye clean is being used a lot I assume this has those qualities if you can explain? I was also curious how you felt going to VS2 or G would make a significant difference quality wise.

Eye-cleanliness means there are no imperfections/inclusions that would be visible to the naked eye. And yes, I recommend only eye-clean diamonds.

G VS2 would look identical in a solitaire setting. I don’t think you need to go for higher grades. Even an H color is a lot more than what’s necessary to have a beautiful ring, you can easily drop down to an I and get the same look to the naked eye.

Thank you that’s very helpful. Please, can you recommend an I color but larger carat for roughly same $? Basically trading lower color with a larger diamond. If you think the fractional bump up in carat won’t necessarily mean a larger looking diamond then I can just stick with the diamond you’ve already recommended.

Yes thank you! I will let you know when I make the purchase. Thank you so much!

Great. Keep me posted.

I was going to purchase but I think the diamond was taken as it’s no longer available. Do you have another similar diamond you can recommend?

Thank you so much I’ve purchased it today!
