Have been doing a lot of work on potentially purchasing an engagement ring soon. A friend of mine recommended this site/service as helpful. Would love to ask some questions and compare some thoughts.
Thank you!
What shape of diamond, style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) are you looking for?
Also, can you give me your ballpark figure of what you’re looking to spend?
Thanks for getting back to me. I’m looking at a radiant cut diamond with a solitaire setting and likely an 18k white gold ring.
I think I’m likely looking for something in the mid teens (12-16.5k)?
Thanks a lot for the info.
I found three beautiful diamonds that would look amazing in a solitaire setting:

All of them are eye-clean, well cut and will look very bright and beautiful.
Value-wise, I like the two JA ones the most.
What do you think of them?
I definitely like the second JA one. I was poking through their inventory myself and had looked at this one –
Can you tell me what you think the major differences are that contribute to the price difference?
The only thing I don’t like with the diamond you found is that the crown is flat (look at it from the side). That causes a bad light performance (i.e. brilliance). It’s better to avoid those diamonds.
Interesting. Makes sense. I guess my only question is the difference between an H color and something more colorless on the scale – not sure I’m super excited about something with a bit of an obvious color. Do you think it’s a significant difference?
There isn’t a big difference. That’s why we recommend G/H color. Unless you compare them side by side (which I don’t think you would do in real life), you wouldn’t see any difference. Definitely not any warm color.
hat does make sense. Maybe I am noticing because I’m comparing side to side so often. Sorry for all of the questions!
I was looking at another stone and wanted to know what you thought or if there is a stone you would recommend that is slightly more colorless?
I don’t like that diamond because of the bowtie (the black figure eight running north-south through the center of the diamond). It’s rare that it occurs on a radiant cut, but when it does, it’s better to avoid it. It doesn’t look nice.
I found these two:

I think I really like the second one you sent – do you see any major drawbacks with that stone?
I don’t see anything, otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend it.
It’s a beautiful stone! If you like it, go for it.
Thanks so much.
