Q&A: Looking for a Princess Cut Diamond for a White Gold Solitaire Setting Within a $4,7k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Looking for 1.15-1.2ct, H, SI1 or SI2, VG. Budget is $4,700. Princess cut. Any recommendations?

What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) do you want to use? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

I’m interested in a white gold solitaire ring. I would like a cathedral setting around 4mm.

I am also willing to go to a 1.3 carat and give up a little color.

Great, thank you for the info.

I looked around and I like these options for you:

This diamond is well cut, eye-clean and will be very brilliant.

What do you think?

The stone looks a little yellow. I prefer to buy from Blue Nile. They have a great financing option.
The setting at James Allen is perfect though I haven’t been able to find one similar at Blue Nile. What do you think about these?

You don’t base the color choice on the pictures on the website, there’re various factors that can affect how the diamond looks (especially the lightning in the room where the video was recorded). All you need is the cert (GIA or AGS only).

The J-color diamonds would be yellower than the one I sent you. I wouldn’t recommend going lower than an I color. Princess cut diamonds don’t refract light just as well as round diamonds and thus tend to show their true color more.

These two have great specs.

I was hoping a little bigger. 1.2ct? I can go up to $4,500.

This is the cheapest 1.2ct option I found:

As you can see, the difference in size between this one and the previous 1.12ct one is negligible. They are basically the same size.

I think I’ll go with the 1.12ct. Are you aware of any coupon codes?
