Q&A: Looking for a Pear-Shaped Diamond Within a $15k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi! I was wondering if you could give me your opinion about whether this diamond, 2 carat, E color, and SI1 is “eye clean”? Thanks for any help you can give!

The issue with the diamond is its medium fluorescence. It can cause a hazy look on E color grades. That’s why I don’t recommend purchasing this one.

Are you also willing to go a little down with the color grade?

Thank you so much for your help. I will keep looking. I definitely can find something better if I go slightly smaller.

But in any ring I look at will those types of inclusions be visible? I wonder in case I see that crystal again. It kind of looks like a bubble or something. Will my eyes pick up on it?

Pear shapes hide quite a lot of inclusions. And this one seems to be very small. I think that it won’t be noticeable. But the fluorescence is an issue.

Would you also like to see my suggestion?

Absolutely. Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to help a total stranger. That is very kind!

Upgrading diamond ring as a 10 year anniversary and budget is $15,000 all in!

I’ll be happy to assist.

Thank you for sending the additional information. We recommend searching for H+ color, SI+ grades with medium/faint or none fluorescence and no to little bow-tie.

I checked and the best 2.00+ carat stone with the quality is a little more expensive. This one is the best I found at the moment:

Is this price range still fine for you?

Wow. That one has perfect measurements and excellent polish and symmetry in addition to all the other aspects you recommend. I was hoping to stay around $15,000 with the setting but I will definitely consider this option! It’s beautiful. Thank you for looking around for me.

I’m pleased to hear that you liked my suggestion so much. If you want to stick with 15K I can also have a look for a slightly smaller stone.

I hope I can ask you to look at one more diamond for me.

I think I found one comparable to the first one I sent you but with a few better attributes.

The clarity went down one step but everything else seems to hit the mark.

The inclusion on the table of this one is stretching the eye-cleanliness. I’m afraid that it will be noticeable. Pear shapes hide quite a lot of inclusions. But this one seems to be quite visible. That’s why I didn’t send it. If the stone was small, I wouldn’t worry about it. But 2.00 carat diamonds are quite big.

If you’re not in a rush, you can order it and see whether you’ll find it eye-clean. If not, you can send it back. If you’re in a hurry then I’d say that it’s a little risky.

Thanks! I appreciate your opinion.

My pleasure.
