Q&A: Looking for a Pear Shaped Diamond for a Platinum Engagement Ring

Hi, I came across your website whilst looking for a pear shaped diamond. This is for an engagement ring.

Maybe as suggested on your post you can give me some advise.

What I am looking for:

.7-1 carat
Colourless D would be most ideal
Clarity vs2-vss1
And very good cut
Also a ratio of around 1.75 would be ideal.

Budget 4k-5k

Maybe I should rephrase what I am after:

I am looking for a pear shaped diamond. What’s the best combination of colour clarity table and depth for a .9-1.1c pear diamond for fire and brilliance. As well as minimising the bow tie. I guess an almond shape is also the most appealing hence the ratio should be 1.5 – 1.75?!

But as I am by no means an expert please correct me and your advise would be much appreciated.

I think you should reconsider your parameters. Color and Clarity are not that important.

Honestly, my favorite diamond of the lot is the 0.90ct H SI1. It is the most beautiful overall (cut, bowtie, eye-clean, brightness). The next best is the 1.02 F Si1. I don’t think the D Si1 or E VS2 are eye-clean.

Thanks for that. I did had a look in shops and the differences to an untrained eye are really hardly noticeable. Out of your four i prefer the 0.9 as well. And it is a good price.

I like the 0.90 D SI1. The G VS2 is surprisingly included for the clarity and I don’t like the shape of the other two.

I think I start to understand where you are getting at. I most likely stick with your first 0.9c recommendation as it is truly the best out of the lot. Considering the price as well.

That diamond is nice as well. I just think its not worth spending the extra 20% on it.
