I am looking for an engagement ring. My fiancee wishes for me to pick the ring without her involvement. Her only request was that it not be ostentatious.
I have read through your site and based on what I have read I was considering this ring from James Allen.

I wanted to get your opinion about it and whether you would have a better recommendation.
The diamond you selected has nice specs, but I’m not a huge fan of the feather on the table. It looks pretty harsh. I’d focus on something a bit cleaner.
I’m happy to find a better alternative for you, is $2980 your ballpark budget for the diamond?
Yes; thanks. I rather keep it to 3K although have a little room for options.
Great, thank you.
I searched in the 0.9ct+ range and this is the best eye-clean option I found:

It looks great.
What do you think?
Thank you. Looks nice. Your choice has better depth, clarity and symmetry.
Questions:
1 )Crown angle on your suggestion is 0.00. According to James Allen’s website, a crown angle in a well-cut diamond should be 33 to 35 degrees. Your thoughts? Does 0.00 mean the figure is not available?
2) Your suggestion does not have any figures for pavilion angle. From what I understand this affects the diamond’s brilliance. Your comments?
3) What do you think of the .9 carat size. Is it a good size?
4) Is there a reason why the GIA report on one has a diagram of the clarity characteristics and the other one does not? I can see the one you have does not appear to have a feather that is easily visible with magnification but the GIA certificate refers to feathers but not illustrated. Does this mean they are generally minimal?
5) The girdle on both diamonds seems on the “fair” end of the spectrum; how important is this?
6) The L/W ratio on both diamonds is 1.15. I had read on your website or somewhere, that heart shaped diamonds set in a solitaire ring, a slightly wide cut (.85 – 1.00) is preferred while for hearts that are to be set in pendants, a slightly narrow cut (1.05 – 1.15) is preferable. What are your thoughts?

I placed an order with James Allen today.

I hope I made a good choice. Any input on my questions below would still be appreciated.
1) What you read are the specs you need follow when buying a round diamond
2) The cut rules aren’t that strict on heart shaped diamonds, it’s more about how the diamond looks
4) Diamonds under 1ct don’t have clarity plots in their reports (the 0.96ct does because it’s very close to the 1ct mark)
5) Girdle has little to no impact on the visual appearance. Unless it’s extremely thin/thick, you’re fine.
6) It’s more a guideline than a strict rule, as long as the diamond looks good, there no need to worry about it
Beautiful picture! Thank you so much for sending it over, I’m glad that you are happy with the ring.
If it’s not too much to ask, do you think you can do me a quick favor and write a small review on www.ivouch.com? If you could, I would be extremely grateful. Here is the link:
