Q&A: Looking for a .80 Ct. Round Diamond for a White Gold Solitaire or Pave Setting With a $3,500 Budget

Looking for an engagement ring around $4,500 (CAD). Sorry for not being more discerning, my search is pretty wide open. I’m looking for a solitaire or a ring with a small sidestone setting. I’m currently looking at Blue Nile (but am open to James Allen too). I really have no idea what i’m doing and appreciate any advice.

I found a couple settings online and was hoping you could help suggest a diamond with the best qualities for my price range. From what I’ve read on your site, the .8 ct range likely offers the best bang for my buck.

I was also looking at a Sidestone Ring

However, from what I understand on your site, the sidestone ring will require a high colour rating, to make the center diamond stick out. I’m not sure how much higher to go without sacrificing the other Cs.

So, follow up question. Looks like I didn’t move fast enough and that diamond I originally chose has sold. I’ve chosen a couple others – can you tell me what you think? I’m open to any other suggestions as well. (I’ll move quicker on the purchase this time 😉)

And just to confirm you believe a .80 carat, Ideal, H, SI1 can be used in both settings? I’m flip-flopping between the two settings. Any thoughts to help guide my decision would be much appreciated.

I’m going to print off Blue Nile’s ring size measuring tool to get my gf’s size. Hopefully this diamond is still around tomorrow.
