I’ve been looking a a particular diamond on the James Allen site. I’ve been looking for a round diamond, 1 carat, in the $5,000 range. It’s been very helpful learning so much from your website, and having the ability to review the diamonds on line.
The diamond I’m looking at is: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.06-carat-j-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-232155?a_aid=dmnd1357.
Although I can view this diamond on line, I’m still not certain about the color and clarity. When I look other diamonds in the color grades of H and I for comparison, I don’t see a significant difference with the online view. It’s subtle and I probably don’t have an eye for it.
I think this particular diamond looks good. I’m looking at a pave ring, SKU: 17040W. My girl friend also likes the solitaire cable band, SKU: 17970W. I would also like your opinion about the cable ring as opposed to the pave. I think the pave compliments the diamond better, and the cable ring looks a little more casual. Any pros and cons would be appreciated.
I know you get huge amount of messages and request, so I really appreciate your time, and your opinion.
With that style setting, you are probably better off with an I color. How much more room do you have in your budget? I’d be happy to make some recommendations.
Thank you for your quick response. Since my first message to you I have found another diamond that I think is a better option. It actually reflects your recommendation that an I color would be better with the setting that I had chosen. It is more than what I had budgeted for, but I think that I will be happier with this choice. The diamond that I have now chosen is an I, VS2. I have already ordered this diamond, and I don’t think the diamond is listed any longer for viewing, but I saved a copy of the GIA which I am attaching for your review. Although I have already ordered this diamond, along with the Pave ring in Platinum, I would still appreciate your opinion.
Thanks again for the advice, guidance, and a great website.
That diamond looks great. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
I received the ring and I wanted to follow up with my opinion of the ring. I think the diamond looks great. I did so much research, reading, and learning about the diamond, especially with your website and your guidance, but I really did not give a great deal of attention to the ring itself. I knew that I wanted the Pave, and based on the rendering on the website, decided on the 17040P https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-pave-set-four-prong-diamond-engagement-ring-item-3249?a_aid=dmnd1357.
In person, though, it didn’t quite look like I thought it would. The diamonds on the ring are almost invisible. It really just looks like the platinium has been textured, unless you look at it magnified. I know that the diamonds are suppose to be subtle and blend, but still, it didn’t seem to “pop” as I thought it would, particularly compared to the pictures on the website.
I returned to the website and viewed the other Pave rings and was looking at the Pave 11005P https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-0.32ct-french-cut-pave-diamond-engagement-ring–item-1301?a_aid=dmnd1357.
The mount for the diamond on this ring is different and the ring actually looks a little thicker possibly. The diamond count is 16 instead of 22 and it looks like the diamonds would have a little more definition, but are still subtle. I wonder how different these two rings would actually look when viewed in person.
I would very much appreciate your opinion, comparing the Pave SKU: 17040P and SKU: 11005P.
Thank you for your time and patience!
…
Here are pictures of the ring. Not perfectly focused, but I wanted to share.
I’m sorry you aren’t happy with the setting. I would go with this one:
The diamonds are double the size, and there is less metal in it.
Thanks once again for your quick response. I’m looking forward to sharing with everyone how helpful and patient you’ve been, and to share your website. I know I’ve “picked it to death!” as they say, but it’s been a fun and learning experience.
Actually,I’m not unhappy with the ring that I’ve ordered. One thing that I liked about this particular ring when trying to decide, was that the “basket” (I think this is a correct term) was sculptured so that the diamond seems to show better that the other pave band that I was considering . Maybe this sculptured style is what they referred to as “scalloped” in the description on James Allen. The overall appearance of the band a little more petite than the other band.
The band that you recommended in your last message is actually the same band that I was considering, except that the pave diamonds did not extend all the way around the band on the ring that I was considering. I really like that ring, and it would be my other choice.
I’ve decided to keep the ring that I have. Once I give her the ring (two weeks from now), I’ll enjoy sharing with her the experience of searching, learning and deciding. She will tell me how I always over analyze everything! In the unlikely event that she wants to exchange the ring, we have that option. I think she’s going to love it.
James Allen has created a personal link on their website for me to see the ring I’ve ordered, and to share it with friends and relatives. I will share this with you too. I will also let you know how she likes it once I give it to her!
I really appreciate all your help.
Sounds good. Best of luck.
