Q&A: Looking for a 1.40 Ct. Round Diamond for a Platinum Halo With a $9–10k Budget

By Mike Fried,

I have been shopping on Blue Nile and I had thought that finding the right diamond was what I needed first. I have never shopped for rings or diamonds in my life, so after reading this article I am now reconsidering that.

My girlfriend wants a setting with a halo and 1.3-1.8 carats in the diamond. I found a diamond at 1.4 carats that is around $9.5k. Can anyone give me guidance on the most affordable halo setting with a 1.4 carat diamond that looks beautiful? I am willing to spend between $9-10k for the diamond and $1-$2k for the setting. She wants platinum.

Have a look at this collection of halo settings on Blue Nile:

There are quite quite a few settings that match what you’re looking for. Which of them is your favorite?

Here’s a diamond with the quality I’d recommend:
Blue Nile LD08349981

It’s very well cut and going to look colorless.

What do you think?

That is a nice diamond and in the price range I was looking for.

I am not sure if you can answer this one, but would this be a good setting?

……

Actually I like this one better.

I’m pleased to hear that you like my suggestion so much.

Yes, either of the settings are beautiful. If you decide for the second option, pave style, we can go one color grade down.
