I am trying to find a 20th anniversary diamond ring for my wife.
She wants a cushion cut diamond in the ring. She is very specific as to the ring for which she is wanting.
I have pictures of some rings that she likes.
I would like to send these pictures to you to evaluate so that you can tell me the different aspects of the rings (clarity, color, etc.) and how much it would cost to have one of these rings made and where I could get the ring made.
You can send me the picture and I’d be more than happy to have a look at them.
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly.
I have attached the 4 pictures of the rings for your review.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review the rings and give me your thoughts and details about the rings.
I’m looking for any details you can give me about each ring in the attached pictures and the approximate price for each ring and some online stores where I can go to get bids on making the rings for me.
Just fyi… My budget for the ring is $2500 – $4000.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the pictures.
To get you an idea of how much the rings will cost, let’s see some similar styles online (I found most of them on James Allen and Blue Nile so just stick with them):
www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/14k-white-gold-cushion-outline-pave-engagement-ring-item-49493?a_aid=dmnd1357
Blue Nile Spiral Halo Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
Blue Nile Monique Lhuillier Twist Halo Engagement Ring
Blue Nile Split Shank Halo Diamond Engagement Ring
They are not exactly the same style but seem to be close to what your partner wants.
Now, you see that some of them are around 1k and some of them are even close to 2k. That gives you additional max. of 2k for the diamond (probably around 0.70ct). A diamond of that size will be a bit smaller than the once in the photos, but those would be much more expensive.
Check the settings I sent you and let me know if any of them catches your eye. Then we can work from there (after we know the cost of it).
You are very welcome.
Thank you so much for all the great help!
I believe she would like one similar to one of the the following 2 settings:
www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/14k-white-gold-infinity-halo-engagement-ring-item-53288?a_aid=dmnd1357
However, the ring size on these items only goes up to a Size 9 on the website. My wife wears a Size 9.5. How do we order a Size 9.5? Can James Allen do that? Is it an extra cost?
I would like to get her a 1.0 Ct Diamond, at a minimum. I might be able to go up to $4500 on the budget if that is what it takes to get the 1.0 ct size diamond.
Just out of curiosity, what size are the center diamonds in the 4 example pictures that I sent you?
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you so much.
Try asking JA about the ring size. They might be able to adjust it and will definitely tell you how much it would cost.
It’s difficult to estimate the size of the diamonds from pictures when I don’t know anything about the rings. But they might probably be 1ct+. However, for those styles, you shouldn’t go below H color and a 1ct diamond within that color will cost at least 4,500 itself!
If I were you, I’d go with a smaller diamond. The halo itself will make the center stone look much larger (especially the double halo on the second setting). I found two options:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.80-carat-e-color-si2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2347515?a_aid=dmnd1357
Both look great. The only thing is the medium fluorescence on it. It might make it look slightly hazy. I recommend asking JA directly about it. If they have them in NY, their gemologists can expect them and tell you more.
Thank you so much!
Wow! I did not know just the diamond itself would cost over $4500 for a 1ct size!
The diamonds in the pictures I sent you… Are they all round cut diamonds? My wife would like the cushion cut diamond.
The 2 links in your previous email are round cut diamonds. Is it the setting that has the cushion cut? Or is it the diamond itself that is cushion cut?
Also, what is the difference, besides price, of the two diamonds in the links you sent in your previous email? I see one is G-SI1 and the other is E-SI2. What do these numbers mean?
The colors of the diamonds are designated by letter, correct? I assume a G color is better than an E color, judging by the difference in price?
Is an SI1 better than an SI2? If so, why? Just trying to understand all the lettering and numbering designation.
Thank you so much for your help.
All the diamonds in your pictures were round, so I assumed that you wanted a round as well.
A cushion would be cheaper.

You are right that the single letters indicate color. E is higher than G: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/.
The difference in price is due to the clarity and probably the fluorescence (https://www.diamonds.pro/education/clarity/).
Let me know what you think of the cushions.
Thanks so much for sending the links to the cushion cut diamonds and for the links explaining the coloring and clarity. Very interesting!
My wife sent me the attached picture of her favorite ring. It is a cushion cut. I would like to find that exact setting and diamond for her ring.
Could you please help me find it? The diamond can be a 1.0ct weight. I am looking to spend no more than $4500.
Sorry for changing gears on you.
Thanks so much!
This looks like the setting you sent me. The other band is a wedding band.
www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/14k-white-gold-cushion-outline-pave-engagement-ring-item-49493?a_aid=dmnd1357
But I can’t find any 1ct diamonds. The largest ones were around ~0.90ct.
Oh, ok. Yes, you are correct. It does look like the setting I sent you originally. LOL! Thank you!
So the ring in the attached picture is actually two separate rings (a wedding ring and an engagement ring)?
Are the rings always separate or does the jeweler join them together permanently so that the set is more difficult to lose?
Thank you.
It could be one ring in that picture, but most likely they are two separate rings. I don’t think jewelers join them.
Oh, ok. My wife would like it to be one ring. I will contact James Allen to inquire.
What are the other vendors with which you recommend, besides Blue Nile and James Allen?
What are your thoughts on local retail jewelers, such as Jared’s? Do they charge too much? Are they a rip-off? I want to get the best deal available. Will James Allen be the best deal available on the internet?
Thanks so much!
I found the setting similar to the one you showed me on JA. There are more companies, but so far, JA and BN are the best: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/best-place-buy-engagement-ring/.
Check our reviews on B&M stores. There is a reason we recommend buying online: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/buy-diamonds-online/.
Let me know what JA said.
Looking at the picture again, they are two separate rings for sure. If it were only one, the head would be in the center of the bands. Something like this:
Blue Nile Split Shank Halo Diamond Engagement Ring
Thank you so much for the helpful information. Sounds like I will be buying online from either JA or BN.
I really like the ring from BN that you sent in the link in your last email. I might look into buying that ring. I really do not need two rings. I could probably get by with just eh ring the the BN link you sent above. My wife really only wants one ring and the one in your BN link looks like two rings, but it is only one, which is great.
James Allen customer care said the following:
Yes, the two rings may be soldered together; although I don’t usually recommend it as it is very difficult to separate them if needed. i.e. to resize.
Yes, I thought that soldering them together wouldn’t be the best idea. And the BN setting looks great.
Here are two diamonds I found:
Blue Nile LD08047289
Blue Nile LD08117219
There was also one 0.90ct, but it’s a bit more rectangular than the other two:
Blue Nile LD07309761
Let me know what you think.
