Q&A: Looking for Best Round Cut for Intricate Setting

By Mike Fried,

I really appreciate your website. The education and general flow of information has put me at ease that there is someone out there actually trying to help people like myself make informed decisions and better buyers. It actually stopped me from walking into the nearest overpriced jeweler and paying an exorbitant price for something we really didn’t need. That being said, I saw this ring and really liked it. It’s a lot for us to spend but she is so worth it. She’s spent 5 years in the harshest countries on the planet trying to save children from being exploited and so she is my hero. She wears a size 4 ring. My concerns are finding a good diamond to put inside the setting which is daunting on my government paycheck. I would greatly appreciate any helpful suggestions.

I’m sorry for the delay in responding. I just got back from a vacation (visiting my hometown of NYC). I’m getting through the back-log of messages now. Do you still want some help?

Your help would be tremendous. I have been flustered by what is out there, and every time I go look at stones I feel that I am overpaying for something that is not right for the setting. My girlfriend is just the type of woman who would never ask for anything and so I know she will be overwhelmed just with the setting. Btw is this setting unique to only James Allen? I know that she is in love with it. For some reason I cannot find cheaper (Being furloughed is a distinct possibility).

You wouldn’t be able to find that setting elsewhere. It’s a superb setting with very intricate craftsmanship. You won’t be able to knock something like that off. What is your overall budget? I’d be happy to make some recommendations for you.

It’s good to know about the setting. I have no idea about the cost beyond I want to keep the diamond under $3200 or less. I am sure there is quality that would be ideal for less, I just don’t know what would be okay. She really isn’t into having a high priced diamond. She just wants to get married. Instead of price I would say I want something that would look appropriate for the setting.

…….

I realize my price may be too low. I can go up to 5500 but if there is a good deal out there please let me know.

Sorry to respond so late. I caught strep and also a viral infection and just got back on my feet. Both are very beautiful! What do you think about a 1 carat?

Wow. Beautiful.
