Hi, I am looking for about 1.5 carat princess cut diamond for my wife. I have found few on James Allen site but, I really like one with VVS2 clarity and ideal cut. However, it is color J. Do you recommend princess cut diamond with J color? Here is the link.
Thanks for your advice in advance.
That diamond is beautifully cut and eye-clean, but I’d recommend going higher in color to make sure there won’t be any yellowish tones in it. Princess cut diamonds don’t refract light just as well as round diamonds and thus tend to show their true color more.
What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) do you want to use? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Thanks for the response. The style setting would be solitaire on white gold. Possibly something like this.
Here are couple of other stones that look appealing and with color rating of I.

This one has H color rating however seems to have more blemishes than ones above. Also table is of higher percentage than depth.
Any recommendation?
Great, thanks for the info about the setting. I color is the way to go here.
All of the diamonds you found are well cut, but the H-color one is not eye-clean and the two ”I”s have IGI certificate. We recommend avoiding IGI lab if possible https://www.diamonds.pro/education/igi/
You’d be better off with something like this:

It’s well cut, eye-clean and will be very brilliant.
What do you think?
Thanks for the heads up on IGI. Will stay away from it.
I like your recommendation but have couple of questions. I was hoping to get a diamond with at least 1.5 carat. The one you recommended is slightly smaller. Is the size difference between 1.5 and 1.43 noticeable? Also, it has a faint fluorescence. Isn’t one without fluorescence better?
I found one similar to what you are recommending with few hundred dollars more. I am not sure if it is worth paying it though. What I like is that it is more than 1.5 carat, no fluorescence, and cut seems to be better. I am wondering if it is going to be more brilliant to naked eyes. Here is the link.

I am also considering this setting. Do you think it will go with princess shape? Slightly expensive but work considering.
Thanks for your quick responses.
You’re welcome.
I recommended that 1.43ct because I was searching for a diamond in roughly the same price range as the diamonds you sent me in your previous emails.
I like your diamond a lot, it’s perfectly square and it has a higher crown than mine. I’m only a little concerned about that black crystal in the middle of the table. Also, if you look at the real measurements of both the 1.43 and the 1.52, it looks like my diamond is still a little larger. On the other hand, yours is better shaped.
However, if it’s ok with your budgeting, I think you’d be better off with something like this:

It’s very well cut and definitely eye-clean. Also, it’s larger than both of the diamonds discussed above.
Thoughts?
I think I have some nice options and need to make a decision now. I will let you know once I pull the trigger.
Any comment on the pave style setting I mentioned before?
Alright. Keep me posted.
That setting is dainty and the additional diamonds will add some more brilliance to the ring if you wish to do so. I like it a lot.
