For many reasons, I have narrowed down my options to 1.5+ carats, D-F color for ‘true’ diamond though might consider a leap to a colored stone, e.g., the blue diamond. Yellow 18k solitaire or very simple setting. Clarity is less critical, though I seem to be able to tell the category jumps (v to vvs, etc.) when magnified. My target ranges for the advanced options are flexible, but I have been using: excellent cut, 55-65% depth and table percentages, and small to no cutlet. I cannot tell differences in polish or some of the other criteria when looking online. Shape options are: oval, marquise, cushion and radiant. Max budget is ‘out the door’ around $35k.
Your site has helped me contemplate buying online, and James Allen wins the race simply by having better visual tools. At their site, I have selected several candidates. Feel free to access my wish list…
If you take the time to look at the list, my question is: are there any obvious advantages or disadvantages to the types of stones selected; am I being too picky regarding clarity; and do any of these diamonds stick out as true dogs or winners to your more experienced eye?
Many, many thanks…
To start off, I’d strongly suggest avoiding marquise diamonds. They are very unpopular (for several reasons) and will not retain their value as well as the other cuts.
These are my two favorite diamonds for you:

My third favorite is this one:

I really like that last one, but its stretching your budget. As for the radiants, I love the L:W ratio and how this diamond faces up. The other one I saw (www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/radiant-cut/2.04-carat-e-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-325349?a_aid=dmnd1357), I didn’t like as much.
What do you think?
I also love this diamond foryou:

Thank you for your input. My favorite so far is also the oval at James Allen https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/2.01-carat-e-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-366794?a_aid=dmnd1357
I had been avoiding round cut because of their popularity (and the fact that we’ve both been engaged before). However, we visited a jewelry store today. Long story short, I learned that her favorite is the round cut followed closely by the oval. If an oval could deliver the brilliance (sparkle and spectrum) of a round it would win, but I think that may be a tall order. That said, brilliance/fire/scintillation matters more than carat size to her.
As such, the marquise, cushion and radiant are out. Other than the oval url above, the others I found on James Allen are:
Lastly, your reference to Blue Nile prompted me to take a look. Unless I am missing something, they seem to have a broader inventory and more competitive pricing than James Allen as evidenced by my search for round options?

Do you recommend one over the other or is the decision purely driven by the right diamond?
Again, thank you.
I don’t recommend one over the other. They are both excellent companies. I still like the original oval suggestion.
