I found a platinum setting on the James Allen website that I really like so I want to find a diamond to go with it from the same site. I want the best bang for my buck without any flaws visible to the naked eye. I would like a round cut at least .9 carat for no more than $4000. Please let me know what diamonds from James Allen would be on the lower side of color and clarity but you would not be able to tell in the setting with the naked eye.
I’d be happy to make some recommendations, but I need a little more info.
What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) is the one you like on JA? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Once I know this, I’ll be able to help you more.
Here is the setting I like:
PLATINUM EMBELLISHED GALLERY PAVE DIAMOND HALO ENGAGEMENT RING
SKU:17467P – $1,900
I am having trouble figuring out how low I can go in color. I also know that there are VS2-SI2 diamonds that have inclusions you can’t see with the naked eye. I also know you can see some with the naked eye and I am having trouble telling them apart by looking at the zoomed pics/video on JA. I was hoping you could send me the SKUs of some good choices of ones that meet my criteria and may have inclusions but you wouldn’t be able to see with the naked eye. I would like something around a carat (minimum .9 carat) for $4,000 or less and I do not want to compromise on cut.
Thanks for the additional info.
For that type of the setting, you should go with H+ color. Anything lower would look yellowish compared to the smaller diamonds around the center stone.
Here is an option you might like:

It’s well cut and will be very brilliant in that setting you selected. You can have a prong placed over the inclusion on the edge of it (make sure you as JA if it’s doable).
What do you think?
Thanks. That helps but I was hoping you could give me a few options to review. Do you see anything closer to 1 carat that still meets the criteria?
I’m glad you like it.
I would have send you more options to look at, but unfortunately, that diamond was the largest one I was able to find in that price range.
Here’s one suggestion: I would recommend changing the PT setting to a WG one. The reason is the huge disparity in upfront costs. As our article says, the WG has to be dipped every few years and the platinum needs to be polished as well because it scratches. So ultimately, platinum costs you more in the beginning and doesn’t end up saving you any money in the long run. And I’d recommend 14k white gold. It’s cheaper and more durable than 18k. This way you can spend a little more on the diamond itself.
How about this diamond?

The cut is fantastic on it.
Thanks for your help. I went with the first option and used this e-mail address for the purchase.
That’s great news! I hope you’ll love it when you receive it. If you could let me know how it looks when it arrives, I’d appreciate it.
