I am looking at making a purchase through Blue Nile and after doing some review, I came across yours and was curious if you had any of the unique discount codes. If so I would love to use it. Thanks!
Sure, I’m happy to help: [contact us for your own unique coupon code]
I’m also happy to help you select a diamond or review the one you are already considering to make sure there are no issues.
I would love all the help I could get actually haha I am now looking at James Allen’s site actually. I can’t seem too much of a difference in their diamond prices between them and Blue Nile but there is a pretty setting I found on James Allen.
But I am curious. is it better to buy maybe a diamond on a site like Blue Nile and then get the setting done in a shop that way I could have a relationship with them and they can do free ring cleanings or things like that? What are your thoughts? Thanks!
……
After doing some research on James Allen, if I don’t do a setting in a physical store, I would go with this one. What do you think?
PLATINUM THREE STONE DIAMOND INFINITY ENGAGEMENT RING
I was wanting to limit my budget to $4,000 so I don’t know what size of diamond to go with. I want a princess cut so I am getting an estimate with JA if that can be done with this setting, but I don’t know if I should go for more size, or better clarity and color or reduce the setting to 14k and have some more $ for the diamond. What are your thoughts, I would love your assistance. Thanks!
No problem, let’s focus on JA.
It’s always easier to buy both the setting and the loose diamond from the same vendor. They’ll set it for you and you’ll receive a complete ring. And JA has great conditions:
https://www.jamesallen.com/guarantee/lifetime-warranty/
For metal, we always recommend white gold over platinum because of the huge disparity in upfront costs: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/platinum-vs-gold/. Both metals require upkeep every few years. WG needs to be dipped to retain its color and luster while PT needs to be cleaned and polished because it gets scratched and duller over time. So in the end, platinum costs you more in the beginning and doesn’t end up saving you any money in the long run. And I’d recommend 14k white gold. It’s cheaper and more durable than 18k.
For the type of setting you selected, I color and SI1+ in clarity would be what I’d go with. I’m happy to search for some princess cut diamonds for you, just let me know once the estimate is done.
Perfect, thank you so much! I will go with 14k WG. But with a site like JA, is it a pain to have to ship it to them to have them clean it and redip it (which I assume would be free). Whereas if I went to a place like Shane Co, I could go in any time and have them clean it or redip it for free and not have to ship it anywhere. What are your thoughts on that?
And I’m curious what would make you go with I for the color instead of G or H?
……
I just got an email back from JA that item 17014 can be modified to accommodate the beautiful princess shaped diamond and there is no modification fee so that’s great news. They also can offer either round or princess shaped side diamonds, which I have no idea what would be better to have? But that’s great news so we can just pick out the stone for the center.
Great news indeed! I’m glad it worked out so well for you. As for the style of the setting, well, that’s entirely up to you and your taste; it’s not an area I can help with. Maybe check out their inventory and see what different shaped side stones look like?
I color is our usual recommendation for a sie-stone/pave setting and it looks great. There’s no need to go higher than that. You’d get the same look for the naked eye with a significant price difference.
I like these for you:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.70-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-2444533?a_aid=dmnd1357
They are well cut and either of them will be very brilliant.
As for the maintenance, well, you can try to find a reputable local jeweler and ask them if they would be willing to do it for you. I’m not telling you what to do, but personally, I think it’s much better to buy a quality diamond from JA and deal with the maintenance from time to time, than buy doubtful stone from Shane Co.
Wow you are incredible!! Thank you thank you! If I raised my price to around $4500 or $5000 would you say I should go up in size for the carats, or would .7 fill that type of setting pretty well?
Thank you. The ‘perfect size’ is very subjective, but if it’s ok with your budgeting, why wouldn’t you take a look at some larger options?

They look great to me.
Wow you found some beauties. The more and more I look at the setting, I want it to look full and not like that .5 carat picture they have. So I looked even a little bigger and I would love your thoughts on these 3 as well
Option 1 $3510

I love the first two (the last one is not eye-clean).
Alright, I am getting closer to the time I’m thinking of proposing, so I’m about to solidify my choice.
These are the two diamonds I’m looking at. They are pretty similar, with the main difference being the girdle and the depth. What do you think would be better?
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.95-carat-i-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-2367283?a_aid=dmnd1357
……
Actually I think I have it FINALLY narrowed down between these two diamonds. Which one would you pick. The .9 carat has a pretty small depth which makes me think it would look just as big as the .95 carat. I’m just afraid of losing some sparkle if it doesn’t have as much depth but I would be saving $500 going with the .9 carat. What do you think?
Thanks so much.
I love the 0.95ct one. It’s beautifully cut and will have a lot of brilliance. Both of the diamonds are gorgeous, but I’d definitely pick this one, it gives you a better value. A flawless diamond will lose its quality the first time you accidentally knock it on the edge of a table or something.
Oops I sent the wrong diamond. I agree, I love the .95 but I also came across this one, which right now they are waiting to hear back from me but I want to make sure a specialist thinks this is a good one too. It should look the same as the .95
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.90-carat-i-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-2589934?a_aid=dmnd1357
Uh, I’m not a huge fan of the depth%. I wouldn’t go lower than 68%. That diamond is too shallow and will lose some of its brilliance.
Oh yikes really? So I should cancel that order? It was about $500 less than the .95 so that was a nice part haha but would it be noticeable with the brilliance that it will lose?
I’m happy to find you a better alternative for the same price, but if there’s still time, I’d definitely suggest canceling that order. The difference in brilliance will be noticeable.
What about this diamond
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.91-carat-f-color-si1-clarity-sku-2574276?a_aid=dmnd1357
Great color and great depth.
……
Or are there any others you would suggest up to $3,300?
It looks great, I like it a lot!
I found two alternatives, so now it’s entirely up to you and your taste:

Thoughts?
I looked once last time today at the options and found this one. A smaller table but more depth. I think it has some great fire though.
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.91-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-1860448?a_aid=dmnd1357
This process is tiring and I’m sorry for the countless questions and emails. Do I get to rate or review you somewhere? Haha
Well, the table might be a little larger, but if you’re ok with it, it’s fine. Truth be told, I find the feather in the middle of the table much more troubling than the cut parameters. Are you sure you don’t want to go with something cleaner?
I know it’s a long process and it’s challenging! I want to make sure you buy a beautiful diamond with confidence.
I’m gonna send you a link to the site where you can write a review if you like. Let’s just wait till the process is over and you receive the diamond.
Okay great, make sure you send me the link when we are done with this process!!! Thanks so much!
I didn’t even notice the feather in the middle of the table. Back to the drawing board it is!
……
I’m starting to really like this one you chose before
https://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.91-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-2563149?a_aid=dmnd1357
Me too. That’s why I chose it!
Haha well they got the order changed and got that diamond selected so it’s saving me some money but it still a really good choice so thank you so so much for helping me get to that diamond!!
My pleasure. I’m glad I could help you decide on the diamond.
I hope you love it when you receive it. If you could let me know how it looks when it arrives, I’d appreciate it.
Hey! I received my ring!!! I love it. The only thing I didn’t love is how you can tell the color difference between the center stone and the side stones, but I should have expected it with an I. But the center stone itself has some great brilliance to it. Thank you so much for your help and I would love to leave glowing reviews about you! Can you send me the link to review you 🙂
Here is the link to the actual ring if you want to see it.
I’m not gonna let you write the review until I make sure you are 100% happy with the ring. I’m very sorry to see that the diamond shows its color like this, it’s incredibly rare. If it’s OK with your time-frame, return it and I’ll find a better option for you. What do you say?
Would you say it looks that bad being that obvious? What other diamond options would you choose?
It does not look bad, but you mentioned you didn’t love the color so I’m happy to recommend a new diamond for you (I’m truly sorry about that, it’s incredibly rare that an I-color diamond shows its color in a pave setting. Unfortunately, that’s something you can’t tell from a photo).
How do you like this one?
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.90-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-511895?a_aid=dmnd1357
I like the sparkle but it is too thick for me. Have any other suggestions?

Actually I’m really liking this one you chose!
https://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.87-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-sku-2575490?a_aid=dmnd1357
I was just concerned about the table being bigger than the depth but aside from that it looks great. I think I’ll make the change!
That sounds great. That diamond is beautifully cut (the table % is fine) and should have no yellowish tinge whatsoever. That E-color diamond you sent me also looks good, but I like the cut parameters on mine more.
I love love it! It just came in just in time I’m so happy with it and so happy we got it done in time and the center stone looks beautiful! Thank you for your help and insight. I know that if I stuck with the slight yellow tint, I wouldn’t have been as happy.
Now I’m nervous about the proposal this week haha I’m doing a magic show for about 200 friends/family and that final trick will lead into the proposal so that gets my heart pounding! Haha, the video should be epic though so I’ll be sure to pass that on to you 🙂
That’s sounds great! I’m glad you are happy with it! I’m also excited to see the video, it does sound epic!
