I have read your articles about selecting diamond stud earrings. I am in the market for a pair of round studs, 3.25-3.75 tw , with a platinum 4-prong setting. My budget is $20,000 to $30,000.
This will be a pair of earrings that I will wear often and, while my hair is long, it is often up. With stones that large, I feel like I need stones that are as clean as possible. I have a good friend who has a pair of enormous diamond studs, but they have no brilliance to them and are dull. I would rather have good quality stones that sparkle instead of stones that could be mistaken for costume jewelry. I have placed a hold on a pair of diamonds through James Allen that are 1.62/1.63 cts I VVS2. The video of them is gorgeous.
My question is this: Do you think VVS2 is too “perfect” for large studs? Should I be looking at diamonds with less clarity? I appreciate your response.
I think you can drip in clarity for the pair. How much were those though?
They were right at $26, 000 from James Allen.
Thats not a bad value. You would save less than 10% dropping in quality. I don’t think its worth it if it gives you piece of mind. If the price would have been closer to 30k, I’d have made a recommendation.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I will come to you first in the future when I decide on another purchase. We live in a rural area and the selection isn’t that great. If this online purchase works out the way we hope, we will be purchasing loose stones from now on. Thanks again.
I’m sure it will be fine. Let me know how they look when they arrive.
