Q&A: Help Picking a Round Diamond and a White Gold Pave Setting for a $5k Total Budget

I have been reading quite a bit on your site about different diamonds, but I still have no idea what I’m looking for or at when it comes to diamonds. I was curious if you could give me your opinion on a diamond that I found at James Allen. The details of the diamond are 0.95 carat J VS1 Round Good and the SKU is 1076526. Thanks for the help! 

To be perfectly honest, I’m not a huge fan of the diamond. The cut is pretty bad on it.
I wouldn’t go with the ”good” cut. I would not recommend sacrificing on a cut. Cut is by far the most important aspect of a diamond. It’s what makes the diamond brilliant. More than 90% of GIA certified diamonds get an Excellent or VG cut grade. This means that a “good” cut could be the bottom of the barrel. For a round brilliant I wouldn’t settle for anything less than an EX (Ideal) cut as the cut is what makes the diamond brilliant and beautiful.

I’d be happy to find you some other diamonds as alternatives. Can you tell me what style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) you want to use? It may slightly affect the diamond’s color. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/

Thank you for the quick response. The ring style that I believe she likes is a solitaire stone with pave on the sides. I could honestly use help picking the ring as well. And I would like to stay under $5,000 for ring and diamond if possible.
