Hi,
I came across your website while doing research for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I’ve found a diamond on Blue Nile which I think is very good value and am seriously thinking of taking the leap! My concern is that the GIA report indicates a fair bit of clouding and I am worried that the diamond may look blurry and dull. The link to the diamond is as follows:

Would greatly appreciate your advice/opinion on this diamond? And if you feel this diamond may not look that great, would be very grateful if you could help recommend something that would look nicer. I would prefer to stay around this budget range/size (ie. dimensions) but can consider some top up if it was a really good buy. This is after all a once in a lifetime purchase… Hopefully 🙂

I looked at the diamond you selected, and to be perfectly honest, I think there are better choices out there. This one is cut a little too deep and (you are right), the clouds seem troubling and might negatively affect the brilliance of the stone.
I’m happy to find some alternatives for you. Can you just tell me what style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) you want to use? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

These are the rough diamond specs I’m looking at.
1) 1.2ct and above
2) ldeal cut
3) Colour I – H
4) Price point for the diamond alone is about the same as the one selected (could consider slightly higher if it’s really good)
5) Would prefer a diamond with a larger face diameter (i.e. 6.8mm upwards)
6) Also, I have shortlisted 3 settings in 14k white gold (from Blue Nile):
– Blue Nile Riviera Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
– Blue Nile French Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
– Blue Nile Channel Set Princess Cut Diamond Engagement Ring
