Q&A: Help Finding a Round Diamond And a Two-Tone Double Halo Setting With Up To $10k Budget

By Mike Fried,

I am planning to propose to my girlfriend at the end of the next month. I have NO clue where to start on the actual diamond. We have looked at a lot of settings online and I have a good idea what she likes, but I’m lost when it comes to the stone itself. I would like to keep the total purchase – setting and stone – at around $10k max. Can you help? I would appreciate any advice you have.

Thanks!

Can you tell me what shape diamond, style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones, halo) and metal (yellow gold, white gold, platinum) you’re planning to get?

Or if you have a sample photo, that would help too.

I apologize that it took so long for me to respond. Crazy day.

So, to answer your questions, looking at a round diamond in a halo setting with rose gold/white gold. Her current favorite is this one:

(but no, I will not buy from Robbins Bros as I hear they are very overpriced). I am open to thoughts and suggestions though.

Thank you for your help!!

Thanks for the sample ring.

Does it have to be with the rose gold? I found a similar setting, but it’s all in white gold. Finding two-tone ones is quite difficult.
Blue Nile Duet Halo Diamond Engagement Ring

With this setting, one of these diamonds will make a great combo:
Blue Nile FLD08348838
Blue Nile FLD08499469

Both are well cut and will look very bright and brilliant. Let me know what you think.

She really likes the rose gold. I’m not sure if that’s an absolute or not for her. I can talk to her and find out. Let me get back to you on that one.

Alright. Great.

So, she really likes the rose gold as a part of the ring. Just a subtle accent piece like the one in the link I sent you is fine. She doesn’t want the whole thing to be rose gold or anything crazy like that. Is that doable?

If she’s OK with not having a double halo, this could be an option:
Blue Nile Floating Halo Diamond Engagement Ring

Do you think it would be OK?

Let me show it to her and I’ll get back to you. Thanks!!

……

So, I talked to her and she really prefers the double halo. However, we haven’t tried any of these on and that could change her opinion completely. Is there a retailer you would recommend for trying things on that would have a good selection?

……

I found one that she and I both really like:

I was trying to find some two tone double halos but not very successfully. There are two possibilities:
A) you can purchase the setting separately and then have it set with the diamond you pick out
B) you have the setting custom made (James Allen or even Blue Nile could be able to do it.)

Then, something like this would be a great option:
