Q&A: Help Finding a Round Diamond for a Blue Nile Platinum Petite Pavé with a $5k Total Budget

Hello, I am looking for a diamond engagement ring and have found my perfect setting on Blue Nile (Petite Diamond Engagement Ring in Platinum). Although I have read some material on the 4 Cs, I kindly ask for your advice on a great cut diamond at best value. The budget for the diamond alone is max. 4k EUR, but it doesn’t need to be fully exhausted 🙂 Thank you for your recommendations.

Excuse me for not being fully clear on my info (it was in the middle of the night, here in Europe). I am looking for a round ca. 0.7 ct. diamond. A 0.6 ct would also be fine because my girlfriend has rather small hands. Although Blue Nile has some pictures, it is really difficult for me to spot inclusions and estimate if I make a good bargain or if I have missed something.

Judging by the provided details and the certificate both stones seem to be great. However, I am a bit nervous about choosing a diamond w/o seeing the respective picture. Depending on the location and nature, the inclusion might pose an issue to the diamond’s appearance, right?

Is it too much to ask you for the same exercise but only considering stones with images (360 view)?

I start to feel imprudent for asking so many questions, but can you guide me to the clarity plots. I can’t find them or do you have a different source than just Blue Nile?

I see why we had the misalignment, I was thinking about the plots which are in some GIA reports.

Please excuse my late response but I wanted to see if the “ring fits” before I answer. Yesterday I proposed!

The ring is very beautiful and the diamond indeed perfect (to my non-trained eye). Although “I” the diamond has no yellowish touch to my eye. The ring was shipped well-packaged and had all required documents nicely included. I am very satisfied with my choice of setting and the stone size of 0.7 – more would have been too much for her small hands. Again, thanks for your help choosing the right stone!
