What do you know or think about Ritani?
They use legitimate GIA or AGS certification, they offer a 30-day return policy. If you like any stone on their site, feel free to send me the link. I’ll be happy to comment on it.
If you also tell me what style of setting (solitaire, halo, pave or other), metal (platinum/white or yellow gold) and shape of diamond you’re looking for, I’ll be happy to send you my suggestion. One last question, what’s your approximate budget?
First, right after I sent the question yesterday, I found and read ‘your’ review for Ritani. But I am still glad you responded and to work with you, as I think your guidance would be valuable. If ‘you’ have been able to build a successful business by effectively acting as an independent ‘sales rep’, then it all sounds like a great arrangement to me.
So, here is a link to a diamond engagement ring I put together, which I really like: https://www.ritani.com/rings/7879538
As to style, well I certainly like this one. In general, I’m fond of the open or split ring (v-band??) as above. The embedded diamonds in the band are not absolutely necessary, but I think they’re really nice in general. For metal, I’m thinking white gold (or platinum) currently… but I’m also trying to figure out/confirm what she likes in the meantime. And I prefer the round diamond shapes.
The $7k price definitely represents my upper limit. But spending less than that means there is more available for the wedding and honeymoon, as it’s all part a one, limited budget.
I did look at designing a ‘similar’ ring on James Allen and Blue Nile, but I wasn’t as thrilled as the one above. Still, the one above was the first pass, ‘first love’ if you will, so I’m open to taking the time to look at other options.
I guess to start, I would want some guidance w/re. to those 4-C’s as follows:
– Cut; Is there a noticeable difference between the ‘Ideal’ I chose, and ‘Very Good’?
– Clarity; Is there a noticeable difference between the ‘IF’ I chose, and ‘VVF1’ or ‘VVF2’, etc?
– Color; I chose ‘D’. Is ‘E’ (or even ‘F’) just as ‘colorless’ to the eye?
– Carat; probably the least important. I liked the size of what I picked and as I said, that total price is about MAX. But something smaller, that looks similar, is fine.
– As I’ve indicated, my budget is finite, but from the shopping around I’ve done it seems like what I’m looking for is in the $2k?, $5k?, max $7k range??
Thanks in advance. I look forward to this process (…it’s obviously pretty exciting for me).
Thank you for the additional information.
Since you plan to use a pave style of setting, I suggest going down with the color grade. As you mentioned, an I color stone will also look colorless and I don’t see a reason for you to pay extra for the stone to be D. Also, you won’t notice any inclusions on VVS stones either. Have a look at this 0.75 carat:
https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/round-diamond-0-75-Carat-I-color-GIA-certified/D-NVM20N
As for the cut, you should search for excellent/ideal only. We filter our search with depth up to 62.6% and table up to 59%.
If you want to spend the extra buck, I’d go for a bigger diamond:

What do you think?
Ok. A couple more things then:
– This diamond is also a 1.01 Carat, and everything else seems to be similar except the fluorescence, which is an ‘S’ (instead of ‘N’). Is that worth a $750 difference? Or are there other diamond quality differences I’m missing?

The issue with the stone you sent is its strong fluorescence. It can cause a hazy look on I+ colors. That’s why I don’t recommend purchasing this one. You can read more here:

Got it.
So I’m getting real close to pulling the trigger here. Are you aware of any seasonal sales, promotions, etc with Ritani?
Unfortunately, I don’t know about any coupon codes or sales on their site. I suggest contacting them directly. They might offer you a discount.
Keep me posted, please.
Please recall our previous communications.
Now that I am ready to purchase, I wanted one final look/thoughts from you re. the diamond I believe I want:
https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/round-diamond-0-80-Carat-I-color-GIA-certified/D-5J3MSM
Also, it’s been a real struggle to get her ring size. I think it’s a 10 (19.8mm)… Maybe a whisker smaller. So I was thinking 9.5 size (19.4mm)?? But Ritani only shows ring size options thru 9 (19.0mm). Do you think that will be ok? Maybe just a simple resizing?
Finally, tell me again how to ensure you receive the consulation credit?
……
Sorry, one other question. I changed from the 14k white gold in the setting, to 18k because the small extra cost is more then outweighed by the 15% promotional discount. BUT, was there a reason w/re. to durability that the 14k was actually preferable?
This stone you found is beautiful with great overall specs. If you like it, it’s a great way to go.
As for the size, I suggest contacting them directly. I can’t speak for them, but I believe they might be able to make a slightly bigger size for you, too.
And as for the metal, yes, 14k is slightly more durable. At the same time, the difference won’t be as noticeable. And if it saves you 15% of the purchase, go for 18k.
Keep me posted, please.
Ok, well I’m ready to buy, so how do you get the sales-representative credit?
We only need to know what email address you use for the purchase in order to get credit. Thank you that you care so much!
I used this same email address.
Thank you!
Thank you for the confirmation of the email address.
And please let me know how you like the stone once it arrives.
I have received the ring.
I think the ring as a whole is beautiful. And I think the stone has a magnificant sparkle.
I do wish it was a little bigger. But that’s not just a “…well who doesn’t?!” comment. I think the relative proportions of the setting-vs-stone lend themselves to just a slightly larger diamond on that setting.
Having said that, it’s what I could responsibly afford at this time. And Ritani’s ‘Trade In’ program may be a future possibility. We’ll see.
But I’m pleased & content that I have confidence in the quality, thanks to your help. And that means more to me than just a ‘bigger rock’ of questionable quality and long-term value. So I consider myself a satisfied customer in all regards.
I’m very pleased to hear that you are happy with the diamond.
And if you decide to upgrade in the future, feel free to contact us again. We’ll be happy to assist you with the search for a new stone.
