I’m starting to look for an engagement ring and I am planning on buying the diamond and setting separately to get the most value out of my money. I just started looking again so I have not decided on either one but would love your help. Thank you.
I’d be happy to make some recommendations for you, but I need a little more info.
What shape diamond are you looking for? What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) do you want to use? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Can you give me your ballpark figure of what you’re planning to spend? Then I’ll be able to help you more.
Reading this email makes me feel better that I have someone to verify my own research. The diamond I’m looking for is a regular round, and my budget is around 10k for everything but I’m flexible. The setting I’m looking for is something like the solitaire. I’m looking for simple and elegant. I’m not a big fan of the prongs so I would love settings that help blend the prongs because I also want the ring to look good side as well as looking from top down. The metal I would like is platinum. The diamond I’m looking for round and something around 1 carat. The most important for me is the appearance. I also want to inquire about insurance and see what the best way to go about it is. Thank you for your time!
Thank you for the additional info.
If you want maximum brilliance and fire possible, I would recommend Brian Gavin’s Signature Signature Hearts and Arrows. Brian Gavin is known as one of the world’s experts when it comes to perfectly cut diamonds. BGD’s Signature diamonds are incredibly brilliant and truly impressive.
This would be my recommendation from their selection:

It’s superbly cut.

So I’ve looked at the settings and I would really like to be able to look at it from all the angles. I can’t really say yes from just 3 pictures. Right now I’m looking at Blue Nile for some good settings as well. Are there any good sites for custom? Just another question I had as well. What is the interest rate if I was to finance? Thanks.
If you’re looking for a custom made ring, I’d recommend James Allen. They have a fantastic design team. Just let me know what they say and I can find some diamonds for you on their website as well. Also, ask them about the financing, their custom service will tell you more than us.
I’m still looking at all of the websites, but I do have a question. Most if not all the settings have I have seen has the little circle on the bottom of the diamond. While I know that it’s to make the diamond shine more brilliantly but isn’t it only if you take the ring off of the finger? I’m just wondering if there are settings without that little circle. I know it’s probably a weird question, so thanks in advance.
I’m afraid I have yet seen a setting without this particular feature. I guess you could have it custom made. Just ask the company you’ll be purchasing from if it’s doable.
I have found the diamond that I’d like to purchase on Blue Nile and on your website it said that you guys have coupons for them? Is that still going on? Thanks.

I’m also happy to review the diamond you are considering to make sure there are no issues.
Thank you for checking! Here’s the info I received from Blue Nile:
Our jewelers have confirmed they can definitely set the diamond you selected into the French pave diamond engagement ring with the nouveau style prongs:
Blue Nile LD08207864
Blue Nile French Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
With Nouveau prongs as shown on ring:

No additional cost to change the prongs.
That diamond is an excellent choice. It’s beautifully cut and will be very brilliant in that setting. Well done!
I hope you’ll love it when you receive it If you could let me know how it looks when it arrives, I’d appreciate it.
