1) Your approximate budget for the diamond: $10,000
2) The color of metal: Platinum
3) The style of the setting: Solitaire
I’m really just looking for the largest stone possible that is eye clean. I have found that a ratio down to 1.3 is acceptable. It is the color that I am having a hard time determining acceptable. I can see the color differences in hi-res but I don’t know how that translates to un-magnified in various lighting.
I love this diamond for you:
What do you think?
I really do like it. The ratio is very nice. What are the other factors to your knowledge that make this a good pick. Are there any others that you considered. I’m not sure how quickly I should rush into buying the first one we find. I do have it on hold at JA just in case.
The cut on it is great. The reason I think that diamond is a steal is the clarity. It is incredibly rare to find an eye-clean SI1. That makes this one a great choice.
I finally sat down and did some more research by looking at more diamonds. I now understand how rare this eye clean SI1 is. In regards to cut I had seen mostly lower ratio stones and was ok going down to 1.3. I don’t like the squares and preferred the skinnier cut hence my liking of this particular one. I like about 1.6 but am now second guessing and wondering if it is too long and will look funny in a solitaire setting. I was trying to find some pictures of long stones in settings for a comparison.
I was wondering about these stones I put in my list and noticed they seemed to have a little more sparkle. I’m not sure if I want to pay $1,300 more for the .08 carats, and it is reserved now anyway. Sorry for comments i’m just beginning to sort inclusions, steps, and depths. There seems to be more than 4 C’s with emeralds because of all the cuts.
It definitely looks like your first pick is the biggest for the price. Extra .12 carats and G color as compared to the 1.5 carat above.
…
I thought about it and I think I will be purchasing your suggested diamond tomorrow.
Your inclination was correct; I’d still go with my original recommendation. Let me know how it looks like when it arrives.
