Hello,
I was very happy when I found you as I have zero experience with diamonds. By now, after I read your articles I start to feel like I finally know something, so a big thanks for it! You do a really great job!
I would like to buy the ring online. I’m in Hungary, so I think I should order it from Blue Nile, as they’re in Ireland and they ship to my country as well. What do you think? Is it a good choice?
And the ring. Of course, I would like to give a beautiful ring to my girlfriend but my budget is quite low. The maximum I can spend on this ring is 1300$. The ideal price would be a little bit lower.
It will be a 14k white gold solitaire ring.
I was looking at the app. 0.45-0.5 carat round shaped diamonds around 900$. I was surprised that they exist at all for this price, but in the end, none of them seemed eye clean. Could you help me get me on the right track?
Big thanks in advance!
Yes, since you’re located in Hungary, I think that Blue Nile is the best way to go. As they have services in Dublin, everything will be easier for you in terms of shipping, returns, and repairs.
Here’s my suggestion of a diamond with the quality I’d recommend for a solitaire setting:
It’s very well cut, eye-clean and going to look colorless.

And here are two settings I found for you:
Petite Cathedral Solitaire Engagement Ring
Petite Solitaire Engagement Ring
What do you think?
I was thinking the same two settings, so I think we’re almost done with this.
Just one more question. I read somewhere that as rhodium is a plating it will require reapplication every 6 months. For this I don’t have to send back the ring to Blue Nile, do I? Do I lose my BN warranty if I do it eg. in a local jewelry store?
And the diamond. I really like it, but unfortunately, you found it on the US website so the price doesn’t contain the 23% VAT. And that makes it a bit expensive for me. We should find a stone on the UK website for this maximum, VAT included price.
I’m happy to hear that we agreed on the setting.
As for the warranty, I suggest contacting BN directly. They will be happy to help you with this.
How about this diamond?:
I really like what you suggested. I only have concerns about the very strong blue fluorescence but I’m not the expert. 🙂
As for the fluorescence, strong on J and lower colors can help the color to look slightly brighter.
Here’s another fantastic option that seems to be the best of them all:
I bought it. The 0.44 carat stone with the mentioned setting.
Thank you for everything!
I’m very pleased to hear that we found what you were looking for!
