Q&A: Help Finding a Round Diamond for a White Gold Solitaire Setting for Around €2,500 Budget

By Mike Fried,

I found your website very interesting and it’s helped me a lot on how to search for a diamond.
I was hoping to get some advice on a diamond for an engagement ring.

My primary concern is that the diamond looks great in a solitaire setting with a narrow band (1.5mm), as I know she likes narrow rings. (14K WHITE GOLD 1.5MM COMFORT FIT ENGAGEMENT RING) . As such I am looking for the best value diamond for my budget of 2500 Euro.

I found the following diamond interesting:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.70-carat-j-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3391955?a_aid=dmnd1357

This one is well within the budget. I would love a bigger diamond but increasing to the next near round number 0.9-0.99 carat is pushing the budget too far I think.
I am looking forward to your opinion or suggestions.

I looked mostly on James Allen as I found their website more appealing. But perhaps Blue Nile may be easier for shipments to Europe as they take care of the import taxes etc.

Your advice would be highly appreciated.

The stone you found has a bigger table than we’d usually recommend. Since cut highly influences light return, I wouldn’t go for this one.

And yes, we recommend purchasing from Blue Nile to our European readers. Can you also tell me where in Europe you are located? Then I’ll be happy to send you my suggestion of a stone.

I live in the Netherlands.

Thank you for the additional information.

Have a look at this setting:
Classic Four Claw Solitaire Engagement Ring

And these diamonds with the quality I’d recommend:
Blue Nile LD00002667
Blue Nile LD09954855

They are both very well cut, eye-clean and going to look colorless.

What do you think?

Thanks for the suggestions, It seems that I am a bit slow as the second option is already sold.

Regarding the setting. I like the setting you suggested. I see they also have the 6 claw one. What would you suggest? The diamond is not super large so 6 claw may be a bit too much metal?

I am considering buying your suggested diamond. Do Diamond Pros have any promo codes by any chance?

As for the setting, I believe that this is mainly the matter of your personal preference. Whichever you like more, go for it.

I think I am ready to pull the trigger now.
Of course, the options we discussed earlier are gone now.

Myself, I found the stones below, which I think are good cuts. However, if you know about better options I would love to hear about these from you.

Blue Nile LD10598634
Blue Nile LD10344110

Both stones you found are beautiful. I like the 0.80 carat a little more. The overall specs are great and that stone is less expensive. That’s why I’d go for this one. I checked and didn’t find a better option at the moment. So if you like it, go for it.

Thanks. I  just ordered the ring. Looking forward to receiving it.
Thanks again for the code.

That’s fantastic news!

It was my pleasure.
