Q&A: Help Finding a Round Diamond and a Pair of Round Cut Earrings For a Platinum Setting With a $55,000 Total Budget

By Mike Fried,

I need help getting engagement ring.

What shape of diamond, style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) are you looking for?

And could you give me your ballpark budget for the ring?

Thank you for getting back to me. I am interested in oval or round cut. It’s depends on the price for the 4 Cs. I was thinking for setting either pave or halo.

How much can I get for around $40-45k? I am also interested in a pair of earrings for around 10k.

Perfect. Thanks for the info. To be able to recommend some diamonds for you, I need to know what metal you’re thinking for the setting. It can affect the diamond’s color a bit.

Oops sorry, forgot to list it. Platinum please.

I found two options around 3ct that you might like. I’m attaching two settings as well, so you can see options.

PLATINUM FALLING EDGE PAVE DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING

I found the best round cut diamond on Blue Nile and the best oval on JA. Both diamonds are clean to the naked eye, well cut and will look very bright and brilliant.
The oval could be set in a halo setting as well (this one for instance: PLATINUM FALLING EDGE PAVE DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING ). The round is great for a pave or a solitaire setting. If you wanted to use a halo setting, you would have to go up in color and therefore down in carat weight.

Let me know what you think.

As for the earrings, should the diamonds in them be round?

Yes on round cut diamonds for earring. For ring I hope for better color. Like G color or better.

There is no visible difference between an H and G. And I color looks absolutely gorgeous in a pave setting – not at all yellow. Have you seen a properly cut GIA I color diamond in person?
But if you want a G color anyway, here is one:

I couldn’t find anything comparable on JA.

As for the earrings, what do you think of these?
