Hoping you can help me with this requirement. I would like to buy a brilliant round diamond that including the cost of the setting and tax is not more than $5000 (making the diamond only max cost about $3700).
I know that cut is the most important so I’d prefer an Excellent cut. (Sparkle is important to me.) I would like the Color to be at least “G, H or I”. I would like Clarity to be at least VS1 or VS2. Here’s the tough part, I would like to the size to look as close to a full carat as possible. I know that carat is a weight, but the size I’m talking about is diameter or width of the diamond. I’ve read that you can get a diamond in the .90 -.99 range that measures close to the same diameter-wise as a full carat.
I want to go with a vendor that has a decent return policy and does not charge for returns.
What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones, halo) and metal (yellow gold, white gold, platinum) are you planning to put the diamond in?
Solitaire Round. Pave setting. 14k white gold.
……
I think I will need a flush fitting because I want this new ring to sit next to an existing ring.
I found this diamond:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.90-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2684931?a_aid=dmnd1357
It’s only SI1 in clarity, but as we explain in our clarity article (https://www.diamonds.pro/education/clarity/), as long as a diamond is eye-clean, there is no reason to pay for anything higher.
Let me know what you think.
As for the setting, talk to JA directly. They will know better which setting will fit.
What do you think about girdle thickness in general and as specifically relates to this diamond?
Girdle is an issue that has little to no impact on the visual appearance of the diamond. So long as you avoid major issues (extremely thin/thick), you are fine.
Medium to slightly thick is a perfect combination.
