Hello, my boyfriend and I have been ring shopping for the past few weeks. I was hoping you could help us find what we are looking for – 1.5-2 ct oval diamond.
No super obvious black inclusions – preferably none visible to the naked eye unless they are off to the side or incredibly small, color either j/k or better (very pale yellow diamonds are still okay with me I think they’re just as nice), ideal or shallow cut.
I’m not sure we are set on a budget amount… But is it possible to find what we are looking for and keep it under 10k? Obviously the more money we can save, the better. I am very apprehensive about buying online when you can’t see the diamond in person, but I’ve been told you can save a lot of money that way.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
I’d be happy to help you. Can you just tell me what style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) you’re planning on using for the oval?
Of course we will let you know if we end up buying one you suggest. We haven’t picked a setting out yet, but it will be a gold solitaire setting, very simple.
I’d really like a 2-2.5 ct, but if we can’t find one that is within our budget, I am okay with a little less.
I look forward to hearing back!!
Thank you for the info.
We usually don’t recommend K color, but if you don’t mind the warmish tint, then it’s the only way how to get you a 2ct diamond. I found two options that looks great:

www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/2.01-carat-k-color-vs1-clarity-sku-1994128?a_aid=dmnd1357
The second diamond has a medium fluorescence which would help it appear slightly whiter. But both are great options.
Let me know what you think.
I checked them both out… I think I saw them both while looking on James Allen the other day. I like them both… The second one a little better than the first. I guess my question is why don’t you usually recommend a K? Just because it’s not super white? Or less sparkly? I used to want a canary diamond, and then decided against it because I’m weird about my jewelry matching things and yellow doesn’t match much of what I wear haha but if a K is just slightly warm but otherwise just as beautiful as a higher color, I wouldn’t mind that at all.
Would a gold setting make it look more or less colored? Are there any around 10500 that you think would be a better choice?
If I send you a few I’ve found, can you let me know what you think as well?
Thank you so much 🙂
……
I also had one other question… When buying online, is there a way to make sure the lower color diamonds like J or K are yellow in undertone, not brown? I don’t know a lot about diamonds, but have read that a K with brown is a lot different than a K with yellow… And I don’t like the brown hue.
Sorry if all of my questions seem crazy, just want to make sure we are getting the right diamond 🙂
Thank you again for all the help!
The warm yellow tinge is what I was referring to, yes. If you don’t mind it, I don’t have a problem to keep recommending a K color. Those shouldn’t be brown at all. But you can always ask JA to have it inspected by their in-house gemologists.
I can’t find anything significantly larger within 10,500. The two I sent you, seem to be the best options.
If you use yellow gold setting, the warmness of the stone will become less noticeable because of the metal color.
Okay I think I have things narrowed down to 3 or 4.
My two favorite are the one you sent me (1994128). And another one:

I was wondering what you thought of this second one. It is a K color as well, with faint fluorescence. It has more of a bow tie effect than the one you sent me… And I was wondering what you thought of that. Otherwise it looks pretty clean, or at least will be to the naked eye. It’s only a little bigger than the other one, but to my surprise when I compared them on a life scale site I actually liked that it was a little wider than the 2.01 ct you suggested. Assuming the one you suggested will be a little lighter in appearance based on the med fluorescence vs faint of the second one.
I’d of course like the bigger of the two, but wouldn’t get it if it compromises appearance. And the lesser price tag of the first is obviously a plus as well.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
……
Not to overwhelm you with emails, but I figured I’d just send you the link for the other two I was looking at as well to see what your thoughts were. They are on sites that only have an HD pic no video. Am I able to ask them for anything more?

I think after hearing from you we will have it narrowed down to 2 or 3.
Thanks again for everything!!

If you like the wider look better, then go for that. All of the diamonds you sent me are gorgeous. I noticed that the 2.2 ct one you sent me on Ritani and B2C is the same diamond. It’s obviously much cheaper on B2C, however, our readers don’t have good experience with them.
The last one on Ritani is between the two from JA (size wise). From these three, it’s up to you what dimensions you like the most.
I contacted Ritani and they said they would price match for us! So if we choose that one, we can get it from a location that is more trusted. And they have in store viewing of their loose diamonds, so we could see it before purchasing.
I will let you know soon which one we go with, and will let you know if I have any other questions!
Thank you so much!
That’s fantastic news! In that case, I’d go with that one.
