Hi, we are looking at a Tacori yellow gold halo ring and want to find a round brilliant diamond for it. Would you suggest to go to an I-J color with high fluorescence to get the most bang for our buck?
I’m afraid that an I or J color stone is going to have a warm tint in a halo setting. Strong fluorescence can help lower colors (J and lower) to look slightly brighter. But it’s not going to help to the point that you could use a J into halo. And strong fluorescence can cause a hazy look on higher colors.
Can you also tell me what your approximate budget is? Then I’ll be happy to send you my suggestions.
One of your articles suggested that for a yellow gold setting, a K color diamond was suggested since a colorless diamond would give off a yellow tint because of the setting. Is that not correct? Here is a link to the ring we are going to get:

We are going for 18k yellow gold. I really want a round diamond and the budget is no more than $5k. Preferably $4500 or less though.
Thanks.
Yes, we suggest a J or K color stone for a yellow gold but only solitaire style. But I wouldn’t go lower than with a well cut I color stone for a halo. Otherwise the difference between the center diamond and small stones around it can be noticeable.
Have a look at this setting:

It’s not the same but it’s very similar to the one you sent.
I also found this diamond for your setting:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.82-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2331503?a_aid=dmnd1357
It’s very well cut, eye-clean and going to look colorless.
Let me know what you think.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that we want 1ct minimum. I saw that setting with James Allen but we are for sure going for the Tacori one. The Tacori side diamonds are average VS quality and G color. So you think an excellent ‘I’ cut would work best? Can you find one that’s 1ct-ish?
OK, if you like the setting from Tacori, go for it. Here’s my suggestion of a 1.02 carat diamond:
Blue Nile LD08061839
As for the color, I is slightly stretching but can be still used. I wouldn’t go lower, though.
