Can I have one of the Blue Nile codes you mention in your review write-up?
Thank you.
Here is the code for $100 off of a purchase over 1k: [contact us for your own unique coupon code]. According to BN, this is the best coupon they are offering right now. I hope it helps.
Let me know if you need any help with the search. I’d be more than happy to help.
I am always up for advice! I am looking for a 1.7 (or so) carat round diamond for an engagement ring and I have a few options. There is a 1.73, S1, I colored $11,650 and a 1.7, I colored, SI2 for $10,200. On the Blue Nile website there are a number of diamonds in the $10K range with I color but they are VS2 or better (up to VVS1). I’m a little nervous about buying something I’ve never seen, otherwise I’d obviously pull the trigger.
Do you think going to an I color on something I haven’t seen (the ring will be a solitaire platinum band) is a mistake? Blue Nile seems to have the best deals, do you recommend them in general?
Thanks!
We do recommend them, yes.
An I color is absolutely perfect for a solitaire setting. SI diamonds are also fine, but you always need to see the actual photo to make sure it’s eye-clean. We don’t search for SI diamonds on their websites without the 360 view.
Can you send me those diamonds you found?
Thanks!
Here are the two I was talking about on Blue Nile:
Blue Nile LD08131443
Blue Nile LD08131443
Thank you for the links.
Now I know why they didn’t appear in my search. It’s because of the strong fluorescence. It usually causes a hazy/milky appearance on I+ diamonds: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/fluorescence/.
These two would be better choices:
Blue Nile LD08161235
Blue Nile LD07962300
This is great, thanks!!!!
Any other ideas you have are welcomed!
My pleasure.
Those two diamonds were the best ~1.70ct options I found.
Sorry to keep bothering you! What is your opinion on this stone?
Blue Nile LD07817252
Blue Nile Classic Six-Prong Solitaire Engagement Ring
It is obviously quite a bit more, would something like this be worth the extra money?
I really appreciate your help! Is there anything I can do to drive traffic/help you out? Can I use you as a referral with Blue Nile?
It’s definitely not better than the two I sent you for at least two reasons:
1) It’s too deep. Ideally, the depth should be close to 61% and never exceed 62.6% (62.8%). Not only will the diamond be less brilliant, it will look smaller: http://www.diamonds.pro/truth-about/diamond-carat-weight/.
2) A medium fluorescence have usually a negative effect on G+ diamonds. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/fluorescence/.
Thanks, those links were really helpful as I haven’t got a good idea in my research on those two aspects. This was the other more expensive one I was considering, and it seems to check those two boxes you mentioned.
Blue Nile LD07610135
I really appreciate all the help!
My pleasure.
That is a good diamond. Is there a reason for the H color? We were looking at I before.
I would prefer to keep the price around what I had for the I, but I want to make sure the color and clarity are right so I was thinking that it might make sense to go a level up. I know somebody who got an I colored stone and was disappointed after the fact, and I just want to make sure I’m not disappointed as well. (After all I will only be doing this once). Too bad Blue Nile isn’t doing their $5K giveaway this wk!
I went out to look at a few H and I stones side by side and I could see a difference. I recognize that with a silver band it might not matter, but because this is a step up in clarity as well I thought it might make sense to go for it.
Understood. In that case, the one you found is a perfect choice.
